North Olmsted Hilzh School SITES Program <br />The Landmarks Commission is proud to be a service agency of the <br />Social Involvement Through Education and Service (SITES) Program at <br />North Olmsted High School. For the past five years, the Commission <br />-; - Vh-? <br />has mentored one or more high school senior each semester. These <br />students are put to work on Landmarks Commission projects or tasks at <br />Frostville Museum. Working with various community groups, in 2007 <br />the Commission began a Living History Project in partnership with the <br />SITES program. In 2008 the AARP awarded a grant of $10,000 to the <br />SITES teachers to continue this program in which older community <br />members are interviewed and videotaped to preserve their stories and for the posterity of our <br />community. <br />In addition, members of the Commission lecture to several local history and American <br />architectural history classes each year at the High School. Members of the Commission have <br />also addressed the North Olmsted High School Key Club in order to garner monetary support for <br />Landmarks Commission projects. <br />GOALS FOR 2010 <br />The Commission has ambitious goals for 2010, which include the following: <br />• Apply for and obtain grant funding from the Certified Local Government program for <br />improvements to Old Town Hall. <br />• Apply for and obtain an Ohio Historic Marker at the Frostville Museum. <br />• Continue to identify potential landmarks and eligible properties for historic recognition <br />plaques. <br />• Explore the process for designating the Butternut Ridge Historic District on the National <br />Register of Historic Places. <br />• Partner with the school district to identify preservation opportunities for the Caster house. <br />• Initiate a comprehensive review of the current historic inventory and begin online reporting <br />of the community's historic resources through the Ohio Historical Society. <br />• Schedule a speaker series event on a local historically relevant topic. <br />• Continue work on the North Olmsted Cemetery Improvement Project. <br />0 Continue with all other responsibilities of the Landmarks Commission. ft
