COMMUIVITY PARTNERSHIPS AND MEMBERSHIPS
In recent years, the Landmarks Commission has worked hard to form partnerships with other city
government groups. Along with the Planning Department, the Commission continues a working
relationship with the Mayor, City Council, and other boards and commissions. Specifically, joint
projects continued to strengthen the partnership with the Cultural Activities Commission in
2009. The Landmark Commission's membership includes a member of City Council and two
members of the Planning and Design Commission.
Amongst its members, the Landmarks Commission continues to boast a wide range of
memberships and community involvement. These include but are not limited to the Ohio
Historical Society, the Cleveland Restoration Society, the Olmsted Historical Society, the
Cleveland Metroparks, North Olmsted Kiwanis, the North Olmsted City Schools, the North
Olmsted High School Key Club, and the North Olmsted High School SITES Program.
The City of North Olmsted is
fortunate to have an active
historical society. The
Olmsted Historical Society
operates the Frostville
Museum, which is located in
North Olmsted within the
boundaries of the Rocky
River Reservation of the
Cleveland Metroparks. The
Museum consists of several
of the oldest historic homes
of North Olmsted. Many of
these have been moved to the
site over the last 50 years. In
2009, the Olmsted Historical
Society continued its fine work at the Frostville Museum. In early 2010, the Society will be
opening its restroom facilities, which was a major project for 2009.
The Olmsted Historical Society is the second busiest affiliate of the Metroparks system. The
Society enjoys a membership of over 100 with more than 50 active members. The Society
directly sponsors or assists with about 12 public events each year at Frostville. More than 30,000
people visit the museum annually. The Landmarks Commission is a member of the Society and
several Commissioners are individual members. This includes the President of the Society for
2009 and the Society Archivist, who also sit on the Board of Directors.
Olmsted Historical Societv and Frostville Museum
