Historical Society on other options, the submittal of a comprehensive redevelopment plan, and
the revision of the COA to include the garage and shed.
Ms. Wenger reported because the Landmarks Commission expressed interest in moving the
house the Board of Education is willing to withdraw its request to demolish the building for a
period of one year to allow the Commission time to determine the feasibility of moving the
structure. Mr. Matson agreed.
Donna Draudt addressed the Commission. She lived in the Caster house for six years as a child.
After attending the August Landmarks meeting when this matter was first addressed, she
forwarded the information to her brother. She and her brother would very much like the home to
be saved even it that means moving the structure. Mr. Schumann, in response to Ms. Draudt's
concern regarding asbestos, confirmed the home did not pose an asbestos hazard; the asbestos
hazard was found in the annex building, which was also discussed at the August meeting. Mr.
Schumann invited Ms. Draudt to join the Olmsted Historical Society and to participate in
discussions to determine the feasibility of moving the house. The Board of Education is
providing the time needed. Fundraising for the move, perhaps $30,000 would also be required.
Mr. Thomas asked Mr. Matson if the Board of Education would consider granting a stay of
demolition for an additional year if requested. Mr. Matson said that was a possibility but could
not say for certain without fiuther discussion. The primaxy concern is keeping the building
secure. Mr. Matson added that in some locations the walls were stripped down to the studs. Mr.
Schumann said in order to move the house the plaster would be removed from the walls.
Mr. Schock moved, seconded by Ms. Davis, to approve the North Olmsted City Schools
request to withdraw the Certificate of Appropriateness application to clemolish the existing
house at 27501 Butternut Radge Road, which was unanimously approved.
1Vorth Olmsted Citv Schools; 27253 Butternut Ridize 12oad, PPN 235-16-008:
A request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to demolish the existing building. A conceptual plan
was submitted showing the area as a parking lot with some landscaping and the removal of a
curb cut, which is a good beginning to understand what is proposed. However, the submitted
drawing could not be considered a development or site plan. For a sufficient review, a
comprehensive plan including details such as dimensions and specific landscape plants would
need to be submitted. Also, according to Mr. Matson's letter the plan has not yet been approved
by the Board of Education. The Law Director has been asked to research the matter of
Landmarks Commission jurisdiction without Board of Education approval. Pending this review
Law Director Dubelko recommended the Landmarks Commission table the request.
Mr. Matson said the landscaping details have been an issue with the Board of Education
members. Board members are divided on clearing the area versus keeping some of the trees. He
feels clearing the area in front of the Middle School would allow the architecture of the building
