<br />LANDMARKS COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MEETING MINUTES FOR SEPTEMBER 14, 2009 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Mr. Schumann called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. in Council Chambers and Mr. Dubowski <br />led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />Present: Paul Schumann, Tom Dubowski, Maryellen Davis, Larry Orlowski, Thomas <br />Schock <br />Absent: Don Rerko, John Lasko, Dale Thomas, Jeff Herwick <br />Staff: Secretary Tricia Granfors <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Mr. Orlowski requests the minutes of August 10, 2009 be amended under Old Business, <br />Cemetery Improvement Project, to include information on the original use of the buildings at <br />Butternut Ridge and Coe Cemeteries. Mr. Schock requests the minutes of August 10, 2009 be <br />amended under New Business regarding the request to demolish the school annex building to <br />include his statement regarding the cost of asbestos removal. Mr. Schock moved, seconded by <br />Mr. Orlowski, to approve the August 10, 2009 minutes as amended, which were <br />unanimously approved. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Centennial of the Village of North Olmsted and Citv Schools <br />Mr. Schumann reported the homecoming activities to commemorate the centennial of the Village <br />of North Olmsted and the schools went well despite the rainy weather. The Olmsted Historical <br />Society parade entry won the grand prize and the Cultural Activities entry celebrating the Village <br />Centennial won third place non-commercial. Mr. Orlowski felt the Cake and Ice Cream Social <br />was a great event. <br />Certified Local Government Grants - Proiect Ideas <br />Mr. Schumann reported three members of the Commission submitted grant project ideas; Mr. <br />Thomas, Mr. Orlowski, and Mr. Schock. Mr. Thomas' first choice is the relocation of the Caster <br />House, the second is cemetery improvements, and the third is Old Town Hall improvements. <br />Mr. Orlowski listed six project ideas. The top tYiree are creating a national registry for the <br />Historic District, cemetery improvements, and Old Town Hall ADA improvements. Mr. <br />Schock's first choice is to create a national registry for the Historic District, then updating the <br />City's historic inventory, and finally, the relocation of the Caster House. The grant applications <br />are released at the end of year and are due in March. After a brief discussion of possible <br />advantages a national registry would bring to those in the district, including renovation grants <br />and funding to rehabilitate the school properties under consideration for demolition, it was <br />agreed further research should be done on seeking a CLG grant for preparation of a national
