LANDMARKS COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MEETING MINUTES FOR APRIL 13, 2009 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Mr. Schumann called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers and Mr. Dubowski <br />led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />Present: Paul Schumann, Thomas Schock, Tom Dubowski, Maryellen Davis, John Lasko, <br />Larry Orlowski, Jeff Herwick, Dale Thomas, Don Rerko <br />Staff: Planning Director Kim Wenger, Secretary Tricia Granfors <br />Guest: Public Outreach Representative Deneen Kassouf of the Cuyahoga County <br />Recorder's Office <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Ms. Davis moved, seconded by Mr. Dubowski, to approve the March 9, 2009 minutes, <br />which were unanimously approved. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Deneen Kassouf Historic Homes ofNorth Olmsted Presentation <br />Ms. Kassouf summarized the work of the Cuyahoga County Recorder's Office and her history <br />with the organization. She described the history of the area and its name changes since its <br />settlement in 1815, recommended research procedures and sources, and shared information <br />collected from research on 27501 Butternut Ridge Road, 27040 Butternut Ridge Road, 25684 <br />Kennedy Ridge Road, and 30095 Lorain Road. A slide presentation prepared by the Planning <br />Department was presented with Ms. Kassoufls information. At the conclusion of the <br />presentation those in attendance were given time to view original historic ledgers and document <br />copies furnished by Ms. Kassouf. <br />Robert Thomas; 26650 Butternut Ridge Road, PP# 235-04-017: <br />A request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to demolish the existing detached garage <br />and construct a new detached garage. <br />Mr. Thomas presented an aerial view of his home and adjacent properties, several enlarged <br />photos of his two-story, Cape Cod style home and existing garage, and drawings of the proposed <br />new garage. When built in 1928, the house faced north and was intended to front on a future <br />extension of Kennedy Ridge, which was never built. His home backs up to Great Northern <br />Village Apartments and is 850 feet back from Butternut Ridge Road, from which he has access; <br />other adjacent homes are some distance away. The unique location of his lot has led to security <br />issues such as thefts from the yard and pedestrians cut through his lot. The front porch was <br />renovated a few years ago to bring it back to the original style. The house was re-sided (with <br />double four-inch blue vinyl siding with white aluminum trim and white soffits) and re-roofed 18 <br />years ago. He intends to build the garage in a Cape Cod style that will match the house, with
