matching 14" overhang, matching soffit, gable roof, Timberline 30-year, natural shadow roof
shingles in pewter (a mixture of blue, gray and black shingles), white aluminum gutters and
downspouts, double four-inch Wedgewood blue vinyl siding, and insulated carriage house doors
with black hinges and hardware. Eventually the house will be re-shingled with the same product.
During the winter months part of the new garage may be able to be seen through the tree-line
between his lot and the apartments. The installation of a fence and arborvitae is planned.
Mr. Orlowski moved, seconded by Mr. Schock, to grant Robert Thomas of 26650 Butternut
Ridge Road a Certificate of Appropriateness to demolish the existing detached garage,
which was unanimously approved.
Mr. Orlowski moved, seconded by Mr. Dubowski, to grant Robert Thomas of 26650
Butternut Ridge Road a Certificate of Appropriateness to construct a new detached garage
according to submitted plans, which was unanimously approved.
Lvnn Wilson; 27645 Butternut Ridge Road, PP# 235-11-005:
A request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to replace/alter windows, siding/exterior
finish, and exterior color.
Ms. Wilson reviewed the submitted improvement plans for her Colonial, Craftsman era house,
which was built in 1950 and is located acrbss from the Marathon gas station on the west end of
Butternut Ridge Road. Currently the home has aluminum siding over wood slats; the original
color may have been a green. Two colors schemes have been submitted. Vinyl siding is planned
with four inch wide wood around the exterior of new windows. The existing shutters will be
painted. The lighter accent color would be used for the trim and the shutters and front door
would be painted the darker matching shade. Currently the windows are casement above and
double hung below. The new windows will be double hung. Mr. Schumann reviewed that the
Landmarks Commission decided that houses built 1950 or later are permitted to have artificial
siding. The color schemes submitted are appropriate.
Ms. Davis moved, seconded by Mr. Rerko, to grant Lynn Wilson of 27645 Butternut Ridge
Road a Certificate of Appropriateness to replace/alter windows, siding/exterior finish, and
exterior color, so long as all windows have the appropriate number of lights on the top and
a single light on the bottom to match the main windows on the front lower level, which was
unanimously approved.
2009 Landmarks Commission Sneaker Series
Director Wenger recently spoke with a professor of history at Baldwin Wallace College on
cemetery restoration. The professor will be invited to speak later in the year or asked to
recommend someone.
Mr. Schock wondered if the cemetery restoration class in July could count as continuing
education. Ms. Wenger clarified that the workshop is a two-day, weekend class. Mr. Schumann
said the Olmsted Historical Society may grant funds for those interested in the workshop. The
size of the class will determine the cost; the larger the class the less cost per student.
