LANDMARKS COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MEETING MINUTES FOR JANUARY 12, 2009 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Mr. Schumann called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers and Mr. Dubowski <br />led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />Present: Paul Schumann, Thomas Schock, Tom Dubowski, Dale Thomas, Maryellen <br />Davis, John Lasko, Larry Orlowski, Donald Rerko <br />Absent: Jeff Herwick <br />Also Present: Deneen Kassouf, Public Outreach Coordinator for the Cuyahoga County <br />Recorder's Office; Phil Tomko, SITES Student; Marianna Carney of Olmsted <br />Unitarian Universalist Church; Sara Macho, Sun News; Ben Saylor, WestLife <br />Staff: Planning Director Kim Wenger, Secretary Tricia Granfors <br />Reappointed members Mr. Thomas, Mr. Herwick, and Ms. Davis were recognized and <br />congratulated. Mr. Dubowski has not yet been re-appointed by Council. <br />ELECTION OF A CHAIRMAN AND VICE CHAIRMAN <br />Mr. Thomas moved, seconded by Ms. Davis, to nominate Paul Schumann as Chairman and <br />Thomas Schock as Vice Chairman for 2009, which was unanimously approved. <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MIlVUTES <br />Mr. Lasko moved, seconded by Mr. Dubowski, to approve the December 8, 2008 minutes, <br />which were unanimously approved. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Cemeterv Proiect <br />Planning Department S.I.T.E.S. student Phil Tomko made a presentation on the burial records <br />and physical condition of Coe Ridge and Butternut Ridge Cemeteries, and proposed various <br />improvements. A Cemetery Improvement Plan will be created for the improvements and <br />maintenance of the cemeteries. Support such as leadership, guidance, volunteer labor, and <br />financial help is requested from the Landmarks Commission and the Olmsted Historical Society. <br />The accuracy of burial records is critical and has been reviewed. Maintenance issues at both <br />cemeteries include narrow and deteriorated roadways, damaged and missing fencing, overgrown <br />landscaping; damaged, buried and missing headstones, litter, and deteriorating mausoleum steps. <br />Other issues include poor and misplaced signage, unmarked entrances, and the improper <br />placement of veteran's flags.
