Ms. Kassouf indicated that extensive cemetery records are available through the Cuyahoga
County Recorder's Office, which may facilitate the City's review. In addition, the Veteran's
Administration may be of service in identifying the graves of veterans.
Cuyahoiza County Recorder's Office
Mr. Schumann recognized Public Outreach Coordinator Deneen Kassouf of the Cuyahoga
County Recorders Office. Ms. Kassouf is preparing a presentation for the Landmarks
Commission on several historic homes in North Olmsted. In her research she will attempt to
locate records as far back as the building of the homes. Homes in addition to the seven
submitted to Ms. Kassouf were discussed for inclusion in the research. It was agr.eed to remove
the Schumann house (27137 Butternut Ridge), the Hull/Martindale House (26031 Butternut
Ridge), and the Perkins/Shepard House (23774 Mastick) from the list. It was agreed to add the
Seltzer House (30095 Lorain) and the Saal House (4277 Porter). Mr. Schumann and Mr.
Thomas will provide current and historical photos of the homes. The presentation will be
scheduled for April 13th to allow time for the event to be publicly advertised, and the
homeowners and adjacent residents invited.
Ms. Kassouf located various historic documents on villages that became North Olmsted and the
neighboring cities. Copies of the documents were submitted to the Landmarks Commission.
Mr. Schumann would like to schedule other speakers from the County for 2009. Ms. Kassouf
will forward contact information for both the archives and the map room. She is also available to
make the same type of presentation on other homes on an annual basis. Ms. Kassouf also
suggests a speaker from the Veterans Administration to address issues concerning veterans'
graves and the placement of flags.
Retention of Historncal Records
Mr. Thomas reviewed the list of historic documents and marked those he would like to have
transferred to the care of the Olmsted Historical Society. Ms. Wenger explained the basic
records retention procedure. She will talk with the appropriate directors about accelerating the
retention process for the identified documents on behalf of the Landmarks Commission.
City Website Boards and Commissions page
The City's new website is expected to go live in January. Basic information has already been
incorporated. Ms. Wenger requests the commission members review the new site and determine
what additional information to include such as certificates of appropriateness, historic
recognition, Certified Local Government, annual reports, the Historic Preservation Plan, etc. Ms.
Wenger will request a link to the Olmsted Historical Society be added to the City website.
Certified Local Government Application
Mr. Schumann requests all Commission members review both the 2008 Annual Report draft and
the Historic Preservation Plan draft and submit their comments to Ms. Wenger.
