As a pazt of the wmptehrnsive study we have evaluated the potential for
dcveloping more cohesive transportation rouus by improving cxisting
corridors. This included the devdopment of clearly identified paths with
obvious desdnations. This study also cvaluated how heavy vehiculaz traffic
along Great Norchern Boulevani, Brookpazk Road and Lorain Road can more
effcctively wexist with pedesuians and ryclists.
1998-2002 traffic counrs aze shown on the Traffic Data Map. Currendy the
major arterial routu aze supporting traflic similar to that of a principal arterial
roadway. Congestion on Lorain Road and the northem portion of Great
Northern Boulevard rause rouring of additional aaffic to Butternut Ridge
Road. Counrry Club Boulcvard supports heavy traffic as well as significant bus
routcs.
The volume of aaffic on Buttemut Ridge Road was of pazticular concern
to residents of the stmt. Buturnut Ridgc is a mile and a half long Historic
Disuia and is a reminder of both the origins of old Olmsted as well as how
the communiry developed over time. The corridor is a major local artery
with numerous homes, schooJs, businesses and a cemcteey which show a wide
range of building srylu and azckutecnue, rcpresenring periods from the first
settlement to today. Preservation of the road's residential character is unportant
to the community.
Figure 10:TioflSccountstudies
'
?.
North Olmsted, Ohio 1 11
