PLANNING & DESIGN COMMISSIOAT <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTEI3 <br />MINUTES F012 AUGUST 12, 2009 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Mr. Lasko called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. in Council Chambers and led the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />Present: John Lasko, Melissa Meredith, Greg Malone, Don Rerko, Angela Williamson, Jim <br />Cotner, Ralph Bohlmann <br />Staff: Planning Director Kim Wenger, City Engineer Pietro DiFranco, Assistant Law <br />Director Bryan O'Malley, Assistant Building Commissioner Dale Mitchell, Clerk of <br />Commissions Donna Rote <br />Guests: Karen Schiller and Erin Lafountain, Deaf Services of Cleveland <br />1gEVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Mr. Lasko moved, seconded by Ms. Williamson, to approve the Planning and I)esign <br />Commission aninutes of July 22, 2009, which was approved 6-0. Mr. Rerko abstained. <br />Mr. Lasko said the Commission received Councilman Orlowski's letter requesting the July 8, <br />2009 minutes include all of his suggestions pertaining to wind energy changes which he noted <br />and submitted in writing. <br />Mr. Lasko moved, seconded by Mr. Cotner, to amend the minutes of July 8, 2009 to attach <br />Councilman Orlowski's list of suggestions pertaining to wind energy as an addendum <br />which was unanimously approved 7-0. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />CMS09-05 Wea Great Northern Mall; 4954 Great Northern Mall: <br />Igepresentatives: Evan Vlaeminclc, Westfield Development Director; Chris Barnett, Westfield <br />Senior Vice President; Kurt Reddick, Westfield Great Northern General Manager; Michael Platt, <br />Westfield Regional Director of Design; Anuzie Dorsey, Westfield Great Northern Marketing <br />Director; Bill Boron, Atwell-Hicks; Anne McBride, McBride Dale Clarion; John Slagter, <br />Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs Ms. Wenger recapped the proposal. Although the Board of Zoning Appeals approved a number <br />of variances for signage, they did not approve signs above the roofline, limited the height of <br />Westfield signs to 8 feet, and limited the height of Retail A's wall sign to 14 feet. Revised plans <br />reflecting the outcome of the BZA approvals and Commission's prior recommendations were <br />received. The most significant change is at the Westfield entries where the design changed to <br />accommodate the signs below the roofline. Retail A sign was removed from the telephone <br />penthouse and relocated into the east entry area. A cut sheet was submitted for the metal roll up <br />doors, metal gates are shown across the south loading dock area and fencing is shown enclosing <br />the north patio at the food court.
