CITY OF 1VORTH OLMSTED <br />CULTURAL ACTIVITIES COMMYSSION <br />MEETING MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 3, 2010 <br />IaOLL CALL <br />Chair Yustick called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at the North Olmsted Library. <br />Present: Gerald Yustick, Beverle Martindale, David Wahl, Barbara Brown, John <br />Kepperley, Nasreen Starner <br />Also Present: Mayor Kevin Kennedy, Planning Director Kim Wenger, SITES student Alec <br />Schumann, Miguel Cora <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Mr. Kepperley moved, seconded by Ms. Martindale, to approve the minutes of January 6, 2010, <br />which were approved 5-0. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Introductions and Oath of Offiee <br />Ms. Starner introduced herself to the group. A North Olmsted resident of five years, Ms. Starner <br />has two children and works as an occupational therapist at Fairview General Hospital. She has <br />volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, PTA, and Goodwill Rehabilitation Industries. The <br />current commission members and guests also introduced themselves. <br />Mayor Kennedy administered the Oath of Office to David Wahl and Nasreen Starner. <br />Comaaiunitv Council <br />Mr. Wahl and Mr. Kepperley met with Community Council to recommend bringing back the <br />North Olmsted Royalty Ambassador Program to the Homecoming Festival. Community Council <br />agreed to form an exploratory committee on which Mr. Wahl and Mr. Kepperley will participate. <br />Mr. Kepperley explained that in past years a competition based on academic achievements, <br />community involvement and personality was held, the winner of which would receive a <br />scholarship and act as an ambassador for the City during the year. It serves as a way to honor a <br />student for their achievements in the same way the Citizen of the Year is honored. <br />Concert in the Park <br />Mr. Cora asked about the status of the concert in the park idea. Ms. Wenger said per Recreation <br />Commissioner Disalvo, Sundays in North Olmsted Park were usually open and he would support <br />such an event. Mr. Schumann said as a musician he is in favor of the idea and could get other <br />student musicians involved from a wide variety of musical genres. He feels sponsorships are <br />also possible. The organizations that sponsored Chelsea Schumann's 2009 music festival at <br />Frostville may be willing to sponsor a similar event. Guitar Center is another possible source.
