CITY OF NORTH OI.MSTED
CULTUREIL ACTIVITYES COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES OF JANUARY 6, 2010
ROLL CALL
Chair Yustick called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. at the North Olmsted Library.
Present: Gerald Yustick, Beverle Martindale, David Wahl, Barbara Brown, John
Kepperley
Absent: Faye Curry
Also Present: Lisa Nemeth of Northcoast Promotions
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Mr. Kepperley moved, seconded by Mr. Wahl, to approve the minutes of December 15, 2009,
which were approved 5-0.
OLD BUSINESS
Holidav Lighting Contest 2009
Mr. Yustick reported the awards were presented by Mayor O' Grady to two of the three families
on December 30. With only three entries, Mr. Wahl felt the response to the contest was_
disappointing; there were many more entries last year. He would like to try it for one more year.
It is agreed more publicity and promotion is needed. Ms. Brown suggested using the records
from 2008 to invite past participants to enter again in 2010. Mr. Wahl felt asking the contestants
to submit their own photos worked well.
Christmas Festival at Old Town Hall
Mr. Kepperley reported the festival was not held. He asked Chelsea Schumann to assist with the
music but her schedule did not permit it. Ms. Martindale originally recommended the Christmas
Festival because when her family would come to visit most of the holiday events in the area had
already passed. She felt it would give local families an event to attend during the holidays.
Attendance was high the first year. The same plan was used the second year but only five
children were in attendance, although the Minimum Requirements performance was well
attended. Due to the lack of response after the first year, Ms. Martindale did not feel it was
worth the investment of time and money. Ms. Brown mentioned her church's choir would like to
participate in a caroling event, which could possibly be incorporated.
Juried Arts & Crafts Festiva12010
Mr. Kepperley provided copies of a draft prospectus for review and comment; approximately
five hundred will be mailed. Ms. Brown recommended a note be included indicating the
restroom facilities are to be completed. Ms. Nemeth agreed a note that "Frostville now has
Historical Society-approved 21St Century plumbing" would be clever. Mr. Kepperley will add
