W/
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED LANDMARKS COMMISSION
Annual Report 2010
INTRODUCTION
The mission of the Landmarks Commission is to protect, preserve and perpetuate the structures
and districts which reflect the City's heritage. The Commission encourages education and
creates an environment that promotes the community's historic sites, events and citizens in order
to foster civic pride.
LANDMARKS COMMISSION
The members of the 2010 City of North Olmsted Landmarks Commission are listed below.
Paul Schumann, Chairman Thomas Dubowski David Neville
Dale Thomas, Vice Chairman John J. Lasko, Jr. Donald Rerko
Maryellen Davis Mark Mahoney Albert Richner
In 2010 the Landmarks Commission adopted new Rules of Procedure to govern its organization
and the conduct of ineetings.
CERTIFICATES OF APPROPRIATENESS
The Landmarks Commission has the responsibility of reviewing proposals for demolition,
construction or alteration of any landmark or property within a landmarks district. The
Landmarks Commission holds public hearings and issues certificates of appropriateness for
proposals which meet the criteria for acceptable work. For guidance, the Commission looks to
the Secretary of the Interior's standards for rehabilitation.
One Certificate of Appropriateness was granted in 2010 for the North Olmsted Emergency Food
Pantry, which was being relocated to a city owned property at 26272 Butternut Ridge Road. The
proposal involved building changes as well as site improvements. The property was also the
location of the City's first Community Garden in 2010.
CERTIFIED LOCAL GOVERivMENT
As a new Certified Local Government, the City of North Olmsted, led by the Landmarks
Commission, made application for a CLG grant to make the Old Town Hall of North Olmsted
ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant and make other exterior improvements.
Unfortunately, the application was unsuccessful. The Commission will evaluate other potential
CLG grant projects for future funding cycles.
