Working with various community groups, in 2007 the Commission began a Living History
Project in partnership with the SITES program. In 2008 the AARP awarded a grant of $10,000
to the SITES teachers to continue this program in which older community members are
interviewed and videotaped to preserve their stories and for the posterity of our community.
GOALS FOR 2011
The Commission has numerous goals for 2011, which include the following:
• Prepare detailed reports for the potential landmark designation of the two nominated
properties. Continue to identify potential landmarks and eligible properties for historic
recognition plaques.
• Apply for and obtain grant funding from the Certified Local Government program.
• Explore the process for designating the Butternut Ridge Historic District on the National
Register of Historic Places.
• Carry out a district-wide mailing of the newly created Butternut Ridge Historic District
Design Guidelines.
• Initiate a comprehensive review of the current historic inventory and begin online reporting
of the community s historic resources through the Ohio Historical Society.
• Schedule a speaker series event on a local historically relevant topic.
• Continue work on the North Olmsted Cemetery Improvement Project.
• Partner with the school district to identify preservation opportunities for the Caster house.
• Continue with all other responsibilities of the Landmarks Commission. j:4
4
