?
Historic District Desip-n Guidelines
The Landmarks Commission formed a task force for the purpose of creating design guidelines
specifically for the Butternut Ridge Historic District. The intent was to develop an easy-to-
understand set of standards for distribution to homeowners in the area so that they are aware of
the special requirements that come with owning and improving property in the historic district.
The guidelines were adopted by the Commission in 2010 and a district-wide mailing is planned
for 2011.
Cemetery Improvement Prolect
Some action was taken regarding the ongoing cemetery improvement project in 2010. A
surveyor was hired to complete surveys of both city cemeteries, including current boundaries and
existing conditions. The surveyor also staked out the areas of the cemeteries with missing pins
to assist city crews in quickly locating and identifying gravesites. These surveys will provide a
foundation for any capital improvements recommended in the Cemetery Improvement Plan.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
In recent years, the Landmarks Commission has worked hard to form partnerships with other city
government groups. Along with the Planning and Development Department, the Commission
continues a working relationship with the Mayor, City Council, and other boards and
commissions. The Landmark Commission's membership includes a member of City Council
and two members of the Planning and Design Commission.
Olmsted Nistorical Societv and Frostville Museum
The City of North O(msted is fortunate to have an active historical society. The Olmsted
Historical Society operates the Frostville Museum, which is located in North Olmsted within the
boundaries of the Rocky River Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks. The Museum consists
of several of the oldest historic homes of North Olmsted. Many of these have been moved to the
site over the last 50 years.
In 2010, the Olmsted Historical Society was recognized by
First Lady Michelle Obama as a Preserve America Steward.
This federal designation was well deserved by the Society in
recognition of all of their contributions to the Frostville
Museum. The Olmsted Historical Society will be celebrating
its SOi" anniversary in 2011.
North Olmsted Hi2h School SITES Program
1147 . X o?n
Explore and Enjoy Our Heritage
The Landmarks Commission is proud to be a service agency of the Social Involvement Through
Education and Service (SITES) Program at North Olmsted High School. For more than five
years, the Commission has mentored one or more high school senior each semester. These
students are put to work on Landmarks Commission projects or tasks at Frostville Museum.
