LANDMARKS COMMISSION
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
MEETING MINUTES OF JANUARY 11, 2010
ROLL CALL
Mr. Schumann called the meeting to order at 7:14 p.m. in Council Chambers and Mr. Dubowski
led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Present: Paul Schumann, Larry Orlowski, Don Rerko, Tom Dubowski, Maryellen Davis
Absent: Jeff Herwick, Dale Thomas, John Lasko, Thomas Schock
Staff: Planning Director Kimberly Wenger, Secretary Tricia Granfors
ELECT CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR
Mr. Dubowski moved, seconded by Mr. Rerko, to delay the election of the Chair and Vice
Chair until the February Landmarks meeting and to allow Mr. Schumann to chair the
January meeting, which was unanimously approved.
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Ms. Davis moved, seconded by Mr. Orlowski, to approve the December 14, 2009 minutes,
which were unanimously approved.
NEW BUSINESS
2009 Annual Renort
The report was approved for distribution.
Old Town Hall ADA Imnrovements, CLG Grant
Ms. Wenger has been working with Building Commissioner Mitchell to identify and document
the scope of work along with reviewing the grant guidelines and requirements. This scope of
work will be submitted to a contractor for construction estimates. The grant application is due
February 15. Council will introduce the legislation to approve the grant submission at the next
Council meeting; it will then be assigned to committee review. It is intended to have a definitive
budget and scope of work for submittal by the date of the committee meeting. The first priority
is to address the exterior ADA ramp; the second is to address interior ADA deficiencies; the third
priority is other structural and property maintenance issues such as roof leaks, replacement
windows or caulking. A contractor will provide itemized, estimated costs for this work. We can
then determine what match amount can be funded. The minimum grant amount is $5000.
Grants over $25,000 require approval from the National Parks Service and the Ohio preservation
office for any modifications to the contract. Due to these requirements it may be beneficial to
keep the grant request amount under $25,000. With the required 40% match the total project
cost could be closer to $40,000.
