Letter of Recognition: 26405 Butternut IZidge Road
Mr. Schumann said he would draft a letter commending the homeowners for the addition and
renovations which stayed true to the style of the original home and complements the historic
district.
Designation of Landmarks
0 4302 Porter Road
0 25896 Butternut Ridge Road
Mr. Schumann thanked Mr. Kraley for attending the meeting to allow the commission the
opportunity to present him with the local recognition plaque for his home at 4302 Porter Road.
The commission dates the home to around 1860 and commended Mr. Kraley for the restoration
work he's completed, not only to the exterior of the home but the interior as well. Mr. Kraley
accepted the plaque and thanked the commission for the recognition and their service to the
community in working to preserve homes such as his.
Mr. Schumann advised Mr. Kraley that the commission made a motion in December of 2010 to
have his Porter Road home be considered for a Landmarlc. Currently there are no residential
homes which have been landmarked within the city. The commission toured the home last year
and was taken by the details put into the homes restoration. He briefly reviewed the process of
having the home recognized as a landmark and Mr. Kraley thanlced the commission. His trade
was remodeling and upon retiring he purchased the home with the intent of restoring it to its
original beauty. Mr. Kraley said he would welcome his home being recognized and said he
would mount the plaque to the right of the front door. Mr. Schumann said the commission
would keep Mr. Kraley updated on landmarking his home.
Mr. Schumann said packets for the two committees were compiled which consist of copies of
city records pertaining to the two homes. The commission's file of maps was also pulled so they
could be researched as well. Once the maps are cataloged he would like them copied and
scanned for easier access. Mr. Rerko said he viewed the outside of the Butternut home and noted
some foundation worlc needing to be done and would lilce to see the interior of the home. The
committees will set dates to meet at Frostville to go through their archives and find additional
information on the two homes.
NEW BUSINESS
2011 Certified Local Government Grant
Ms. Wenger reviewed the process and amounts which are commonly distributed through the
grant and indicated the filing deadline is March 1, 2011 to apply for funds. The grant is 60%
grant and 40% local funds. The minimum to apply for is $5,000 and the typical range is between
$6,000 and $18,000. She noted the types of projects which received grant funds the prior year
and believed the commission should piclc a new project. She noted some of the priorities listed
within the grant application. Mr. Schumann suggested applying for funds to'hire someone to
update the commissions 1970's historical survey including digitally recording records. It would
2
