NEW BUSINESS:
A) St. Richard's Church, 26855 Lorain Road
The proposal is to construct addition onto the existing church to provide for additional seating
and storage areas. This proposal will not require variances. Referred by Planning Commission
October 13, 1998.
Mr. Ryba presented the proposal for Saint Richard's Church. In the past Masses have been held
in the basement classroom at the same time Masses in the main chapel take place, because there
are not enough seats in the main chapel. The reason for the addition is there has been a decrease
in the number of Priest being ordained which will make it difficult to have Mass in the basement
classroom. So the church would like to expand the main Chapel to accommodate the number of
parishioners that attend the Masses. The east and west sides walls of the main Chapel will be
removed to add 982 additional square feet, but the seating increase will be about 416 seats. The
additions will be curricular additions on each side. The existing parking facility has a capacity of
312 spaces which will not be changed. The Planning commission has asked that a landbanked
parking area be assigned which we has been done. The exterior of the building is presently brick
with some limestone, a copper roof, and some slate. The site is very well landscaped and has
been maintain very well over the years. The materials that will be used on the exterior will be the
existing brick. The brick will be removed and reused on the new addition. The material of the
roof will be a copper to blend in with what is presently on the roof. The windows will be a facet
glass the same as the windows that are in place now. The addition is not that large in square
footage and we will be reusing some of the materials, and the rest of the new materials will be
matching the existing material. Mr. Yager asked if the roof is going to be Bermuda style. Mr.
Ryba indicated it would be a Bermuda style to fit the curvature of the building. Mr. Yager
indicated he hoped reusing the brick would work. Mr. Ryba suggested the building is not a
masonry building it is a brick vainer. Mr. Zergott indicated he would like to request a landscape
