,
2) Snortsman's Barber Shon, 30650 Lorain Road
Proposal consists of renovating the existing garage to be used as a barber shop. Referred by
planning commission Ju1y 14, 1998.
Mr. Dickson, the architect representing Sportsman's Barber shop presented the proposal. Mr.
Sporstman has a barber shop on 92nd and Madison. Initially Mr. Sportsma.n purchased the home
at 30650 Lorain Road so he could have his barber shop in his home. After some deliberation Mr.
Sportsman has chosen to renovate the existing garage which is behind his home. Mr. Sportsman
has spoken to the Building Department and was told it could be placed in the garage. The
building is a 20" by 20" block building, we will be using new dryvit on the exterior block walls,
new shingles on the root and totally redo the inside. This will include electrical work, Air
Conditioning, plumbing, things like that. We have provided a landscape plan which shows an
existing maple tree with a pine tree just east of it that will have to be removed in order to put in
the requ.ired parking. The pine tree is pretty weathered and needs to come out. We will be
putting in weigelia and crimson bar-berry shrubs. Mr. Zergott asked if a dwarf crimson will be
used. Mr. Dickson suggested he would use the dwarf crimson to watch the height. Mr. Zergott
asked what is on either side of your lot. Mr. Dickson stated both properties are zoned for retail
business, but on the east side of the garage the property is being used as a residence not a
business. Mr. Zergott suggested putting in landscaping such as hedges on that side of the
property to block the parked cars from the residents next door. Mr. Dickson suggested if the
resident would allow us to plant the hedges two feet in on their property it would work. Right
now the driveway is on the edge of the property line. Mr. Zergott asked what color the dryvit
would be. Mr. Dickson stated it will be Cornerstone Dover Sky 5616512, and China White
S7F1616 the shingles on the roof will be Slate gray Dimensional shake. The light fixture will be
Bega wall mounts, which will be painted with red baked enamel. Mr. Zergott asked what the
hours of operation would be. Mr. Dickson suggested the barber shop will be open from 9:00 A.
M. to 5:00 P.M.. Mr. Zergott asked if Mr.. Sportsman's neighbors had been sent notices for
tonight's Architectural review board meeting. The clerk stated the Board of Commissions office
does not send out notices for Architectural review board meetings. The abutting neighbors were
notified when the barber shop proposal went to the Planniug commission meeting. Mr. Zergott
asked if the diyvit would go all the way to the grou.nd or would some kind of kick plate be put in
place. Mr. Dickson suggested they would be putting some kind of kick plate down. There will
also be a planter box below the front windows to soften things up. Mr. Zergott asked if the Air
Conditioning unit would be going on the back of the building. Mr. Dickson assured the board
members the air conditioning unit would go behind the building.
T Liggett motioned to except the proposal as submitted with the exception that box hedges or
shrubbery be placed along the east side of the lot which should be worked out with the neighbor.
The motion was seconded by B. Zergott and unanimously approved. Motion carried
In the framing of the motion Cou.ncilman McKay suggested to Mr. Zergott that the BZD board
members were against dryvit being used on any buildings in North Olmsted. He also suggested
the BZD board members would be sending out letters to all Commission board members to let
them know how they feel about ciryvit materials being used on build.ings in North Olmsted.
