.,
?t
would comply with the zoning code, and put in some drainage area and move the parlang places back because you
have more then enough room to do it, this is what we would like for you to work with because we don't want you to
put a pole sign in. Mr. Murphy stated the pole sign exists out there now and is in the triangle, the problem is being
in that setback bloclang the visibility, I have a drawing done up based on a ground sign we would have no problem
doing, we are allowed 36 square feet, -5 feet in height. Mr. Gomersall stated now you are talking shop/business.
Mr. Murphy stated we are concemed about a good spot to put it, we are open to any suggestions from the board on
were to put it. Mr. Conway stated that the ground sign is 12 feet in length is there a way to get that down a bit.
Mr. Murphy stated the reason they drew it up like that was because we are allowed the 36 square feet, it is a long
name and that is the way their trade mark reads and is best situated for that. Mr. Conway stated so answer my
question is there a way we can shrink the length of the sign down a little bit. Mr. Murphy stated not really, if we
shortened it up, say we went with maybe even 8 feet then we would want to max. out the allowable square footage
we feel a two foot base is a good size. Mr. Gomersall stated you have to remember that you are moving into the
parking area now and the longer you make the sign it will interfere with the parking area they will see Gateway but
not country is what I'm saying. Mr. Mutphy stated the concem he has is if they went with a 4 by 8 which is 32
square feet rouglily and reducing the size and is more of a square if we could still use a 2 foot base we would be
over by 1 foot. Mr. Gomersall stated that they would make the sign 1 foot higher and reduce the length, and will
replace the variance for the prohibited pole sign, and you will need a 1 foot height variance for the ground sign. Mr.
Gomersall stated we are ready to move on to the 2 wall signs now. Mr. Mutphy stated the rear of our building
faces Brookpark road and we feel it is essential that we have the sign on the back of the building to compete with
our competitors, there is a lot of traffic on the back side of the building, we are aware that there is no square footage
allowed on the back of the building so we tried to draw sometlung up that was not aslang for to much but, at the
same time gives us the visibility that we need for the traffic going back and forth to realize that Gateway Country is
in the area. Mr. Gomersall asked what are the demotions of the sign. Mr. Murphy stated the sign is 65 square feet,
the #2 sign in the drawings. Mr. Conway stated that it is 3 ft. 8" by 17 ft. 8". Mr. Murphy stated the letters itself
are not that large they use their registered trade mark, which is there G logo the black band and the white letters, the
reason the sign comes out to 65 square feet is because, the height of the G extends a couple of inches above the
black band, and the personal computers comes down a little lower but the size of the letters are around 12" to 14 "
inches on the Gateway Country letters and about 6" to 8" inches on the personal computer letters. Mr. Gomersall
stated that he didn't have a problem with either one, how mucli square footage are we talking about, 4 by 9 or 36
square fcet, then we don't nced a variance, you can take off 16 square feet, from the variance for the 68.5 ft. total
face area of total business use, that is 52.5, then a 55 square foot variance for the structure itself, if this pole sign
would have been a ground sign variance that is all out is it not. Mr. Conway stated yes.
J. Maloney moved to grant Gateway (Alto Signs): 26103 Lorain Road, (1) a request for variance 1123.12, (2) a
variance to install a ground sign with a 1 foot height variance, (3) a variance to install two wall signs, (4) a 5"
inch variance for wall sign #1,-(5) a 19 square foot variance with a face of wall sign #1, (6) a 52.5 square foot
variance for the face area for the total business use, (7) a 55 square foot variance for the face area of total
business building structure itsel£ The motion was' seconded by R. Gomersall and unanimously approved.
Variance granted.
8. Marge Russe123249 Westchester
Request for special pernut (1123.08). Request special pernut to add to a non-confornung dwelling, as front
setback of existing dwelling does not conform. Said property has 30 ft. front set back, proposed work will not
effect front of house as addition will be attached to the back side of -existing dwelling. Special pernut required
Ord. 90- 125, Section 1165.02(b). Note: A 20 foot rear yard variance was granted 7/11/79.
Correehon to write-up should read as follows:
Marge Russe123249 Westchester
Request for special pernut (1123.08).
