i
y ?.
City of North Olmstecl
5200 Dover Center Road • North Olmsted, Ohio 44070-3129
Dave Conway Building Department Norman T.1Viusial, Mayor
Building Commissioner
1VIEM0
Marth 16,2000
?
FROM: -David L. Conway
Building Commissioner
TO: 1VTembers of the Board of Building Code Appeals
RE: : 25838 By.ron Drive
I wanted to provide this correspondence, as there will, not be a representatiye from
the Building Department at your meeting tonight:
I liave personally reviewed this matter with our.Fire Department and although they
do not want undersized windows to become a comrrion pr.actice, they would not raise a
strong objection to a var.iance being granted in this;case. They have'the means,t:o remove
the window and fiame (or cut out a section of the wall) to aid in removing soineone from
the bedroom iri event of a fire.
Further w.ith the addition; smoke detectors h.ave bee.n. added to the family room
. :
area and are also located outside of the bedrooms in the hallway_- This early warning
should give the room occupant time to :move to ,another b.edroom if the need arises. ,
While it is the goal to have the building code followed, the Building Department
will not raise an objection if the Board determines to grant a variance in this case. The
owners should be aware that they would bear the responsibility to repair any dainage that
might be done by the Fire Department in enlarging an opening. They would also be
responsible to make future purchasers of the property aware that the opening does not
meet code and that a variance was granted. (This information will be available as a public
record.)
ow
ta Phone: (440) 777-8000 • Fax: (440) 777-5889 e "
