couple feet were taken off, so the playing field would fit in. Mr. Yager indicated he
understood where Mr. Schmidt was coming from, but he suggests waiting a year and put the
masonry around the bottom wrap, rather. than building it now and have it look like a metal
shed. He realizes that issue is not up to the Architectural Review Board to examine. Mr.
Schmidt indicated that he needed to tell the Board what his feelings were, so that the Board
knew where he was coming from. He indicated the decision was still the Board's and out of his
control. Mr. Zergott mentioned the two buildings looked that afternoon, the buildings were all
aluminum for the first ten feet. Mr. Yager indicated the first farade was all brick then it jogged
back and was another material. It was all white, so it appeared to be the same. The next
building was all efface jogging down to a pole barn. Mr. Zergott indicated that since this is a
large building, is the Board going to worry that much with the building being that close to I-
480 and be wrapped with masonry. Mr. Yager indicated that he is not asking the owner to put
masonry all the way up, he is suggesting Soccer Sportsplex ask the City to do that. Mr. Yager
indicated that if the City wants to live up to what it says, this is a prime opportunity to put
some masonry up since its an entry point to the city. He believes the masonry is necessary.
Mr. Yager reiterated that this proposal was brought to the Boards 3 years ago and Mr.
Schmidt is telling the Board the same thing as he had back then. Ms. Schulz questioned, as a
remedy, if the wall would look out of place if the masonry were stepped down from the 7 feet
down to 3 feet. Mr. Yager indicated the city, along with many other cities, would not allow this
to happen. He indicated if you go down to 3 feet, it would be just as costly as going to the 7
feet, because metal is being brought down to the base of the masonry. Mr. Liggett suggested
possibly using a metal siding to create the look of inetal banding around the building. Mr.
Schmidt indicated that split face blocks costs $12.00 a sq,uare foot. Mr. Yager indicated that
metal plus the steel is about the same, so there is not much difference, and that difference is not
significant enough. Mr. Yager indicated Mr. Schmidt should not rush in adding the addition;
he should consider waiting six months, then add the masonry. Mr. Zergott indicated the Board
would know what would look the best. Ms. Schulz mentioned that she understand the
economics of the visions of business. She gives merit to what has been discussed. Ms. Schulz
indicated the Board is looking for what is best for the City and for the structure itself. She
suggested revisiting their investment structure to come to a better conclusion to best meet the
Architectural Review Board requirements. Mr. Yager reiterated the Board does not like the
metal the full height of the building. Mr. Yager suggested Mr. Schmidt contact his architect to
discuss different options. He also suggested having a Board Member help W. Schmidt and the
architect find those different options. At this point, Mr. Yager was suggested to help. 1V1rs.
Schulz questioned how much landscaping was visible from I-480. Mr. Zergott indicated there
is natural vegetation with evergreens lining the rear of the property.
M. Yager motioned to accept Soccer Sportsplex; 31515 Lorain Rd. their proposal, which
consists, of an addition added to the existing building with the following comment that the
masonry is continued around at the point of the existing building, and that those elevations be
submitted to M. Yager for review. The motion was seconded by K. Schulz and unanimously
approved. Motion Carried.
VI. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 7:00pm.
B.
