i
already were double sided. Mr. Yager moved on to the "F" signs commenting there are three " M
"F" signs and a"G" sign that work together. The first sign that comes off of Lorain Road is
necessary; otherwise people will pull into the loading dock. The second sign is sitting in the
back corner, which seems a somewhat odd location for it. If you are already traveling south,
once they have assigned themselves through the site, they are already committed to going that
way. If the next sign is put on the island, why not extend the island out and put your "F" sign
and your drive-thru entry sign nearby. Mr. Self indicated that this is internal private property
and it's a safe flow of trafFic, not a real major sign. The signs are 3 ft. off the ground. Mr.
Yager suggested its all part of the clutter and noise that goes on in the site and he thinks it isn't
needed to have a sign every 50-ft. You have the one half that you have committed someone to
drive and they aren't going to turn around because they don't see another sign, since they are
looking for the drive-thru. They will go to the one point and keeping moving around to the
drive-thru. Mr. Self asked if directional signs needed a permit in the City of North Olmsted if
they are the right size. Mr. Conway replied yes. Mr. Conway went on to say that what the
Architectural Review Board is a recommending body. Mr. Yager indicated that CVS is
putting too many signs on their site. He complimented them on their building, but wants CVS
to minimize the number of signs they have. Mr. Yager indicated that if you remove sign "G"
and replaced with F with an arrow, you already know that's where you are going. Then if the
"H" is on the wall, and not where it is shown on the drawing, is in a good spot. Mr. Yager
indicated that CVS inight have over exceeded its limit on signs as far as Building Codes by
double the amount. If CVS wants to keep all signs, they will need to reduce the size of signs.
Mr. Yager indicated the CVS 48" sign should only be 36" Mr. Self indicated the Planning
Commission reviewed and approved what, if you chose to do make that recommendation, bLlt
we believe the signs are necessary for this scheme and its part of the process of why we arrived
here. Mr. Self believes it to be insignificant to argue about a 3 ft. sq. sign that is for directional
purposes and he sees the site in its present state as being "trashy" and cluttered. What CVS
proposes will be great improvement. Mr. Self indicated that the siDns are minimal and not ?
everyone is as familiar with signs as the board believes. These signs are for the majority of
people and for transients coming through the community, and Porter Road is used more then
what Mr. Yager thinks. Mr. Zerjott indicated that Porter Road is used extensively due to the
High school; it's a major cut-through because of the e?sting light to head west. Mr. Yager
reviewed that his suggestions would work. Mr. Zergott suggested removing the southwest "F"
signs since when the cars are packed back there, you won't be able to see the signs anyway.
NIr. Self indicated that the "F" sign was also for people coming in off of Porter. Mr. Zergott
reviewed that people will see the first "F" and "G" and therefore won't need the other "F". Mr.
Self indicated that CVS took off the second monument sign because Planning Commission
didn't want it, but they agreed that directional signs should be used Mr. Self indicated that the
Architectural Review Board is expecting a lot from "common people'-'. Mr. Liggett indicated
that the applicant was directing traffic from two different directions. NIr. Self suggested Sign
G could be removed. Ms. Schultz questioned if we needed to tell people where to enter and
wondered why this couldn't be accomplished by painting an arrow? Mr. Yager indicated that
the people of North Olmsted are more familiar with the city than Mr. Self is giving them credit
for. People coming off the highway are coming up and down Lorain Road, whereas people
coming down Porter live there or have gotten completely lost. Mr. Yager suggested that the
people aren't going to want all the clutter of signs at CVS. Mr. Yager questioned if the sign
said "Welcome CVS". Mr. Self answered that it just said, "enter". Mr. Self also indicated that
it was a white board with the red letters and that the board had already suggested that CVS
make the siga larger and add lights on the top of it. Mr. Zergott indicated that it wasn't the
Architectural Review Board that suggested that. Mr. Self indicated that all this signage has
already been hashed out with Planning Commission and he doesn't see why CVS has the "G"
4
