. a
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
"TOGET'HER WE CAllT MAKE A DIF'FERENCE!"
LANDMAltKS COMIVIISSION
MINUTES - JULY 10, 2000
7:30 P.M. IloT OLD T0WN HALL
I. ROLL CALL: Chairman Lang called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.
PRESENT: Chairman J. Lang, Board Members M. Ga.reau, K. O'Rourke, A. Smeraldi, L.
VanAuken, P. Barker and G. Corell.
R. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES: There are no minutes to review or conect.
III. NEW BUSINESS:
There are six certificates requested on the agenda, five of which are described and one is not.
Paul Schumann; 27137 Butternut Rid e? Road
Mr. Lang called all interested parties forward. As Mr. Schumann was not present for the
meeting, his request was tabled due to lack of information and absence of the applicant.
2. Tulius Parsnisk; 27620 Butternut Ridge Road
Proposal consists of.replacing and changing of color of shingle roof.
Mr. Lang commented that the request is to replace the existing roof, and to chose a new color
for the new roof. He questioned what the reasons were for replacing the roof. One member
indicated that it needs to be repaired because it is falling down. Mr. Lang questioned if there
were samples or pictures of the existing roof. He remarked that the pictures show that the
roof itself is buckling, due to aging and the decomposing of the shingles. At this time
samples of the new shingles were passed out. The old shingles are black while the new
shingles will be a weathered gray color. Mr. Kilpatrick commented that he had a letter from
New Castle Roofing suggesting that they would remove the flashing and registers and
reinstall them while everything else will stay the same. Mr. Lang questioned the exact
location of the home on Butternut. Mr. Parsnisk indicated that it is the first home behind the
Marathon station. He questioned if they would need a permit to have the porch re-done. Mr.
Lang suggested that the applicant would need a permit from the city for the porch. Mr.
Parsnisk remarked that he wanted the deck to remain as it is but he would be replacing the
tongue and groove decking. Mr. Lang suggested that the board could include the porch in the
motion tonight even though the applicant has not applied for a permit for the porch through
the building department. He then indicated the commission would specify in the motion that
it would be replaced with tongue and groove decking. Mr. Gareau questioned if the applicant
was going to replace the stairs at all or paint them the same or similar color of the same
design. Mr. Parsnisk commented that he was checking into the expense of pre-formed
concrete steps, which would either be gray or white. Mr. Lang remarked that pre-formed
concrete steps would be a departure from what is there and might require a little more
