.j ?
him the very best of his wishes. Mr. Lang commented that Mr. Barker recommended
someone as a replacement for Mr. Miller's position. They have submitted that name to the
Mayor for approvaL
3. Mr. Lang informed the rest of the board that the four people who voted against the motion to
grant W. Biszantz permission to put siding on his house met together and composed a letter
which was sent under their signatures to W. Biszantz and a copy went to the Building
Commissioner. They have not heard a response from Mr. Biszantz regarding that letter.
Mrs. O'Rourke commented that she would like to see a copy of that letter. Mr. Lang replied
that he would let her see a copy of his letter.
4. Mr. Lang then commented that the people who live on Butternut Ridge Rd. who are
contemplating doing what Mr. Biszantz wanted to do, which was put vinyl siding on a
historic home, need guidance from this board as to what they can do otherwise. They could
probably take excerpts from Mr. Bistantz's letter and make them available to the others who
want vinyl siding on their historic home. Mrs. Lord commented that it might be very helpful
also to have copies of the Historic Standards in the building department, to give to people
when they apply for something if they live in the historic district. N1rs. VanAuken
questioned how people know where to get contractors that have experience with historic
sites. There have been two men that have come to this board that said they work a lot with
historic conditions and their know how would be very helpful. It would be nice if the board
could refer them to people who want work done on their historic homes. Mr. Barker replied
to Mrs. VanAuken's statements by commenting that he agrees with her but by the time
somebody gets to the building department and gets to this board they already have a
contractor signed up to do the work. It would be wrong on the boards part to say don't talk to
A-Company, talk to B-Company. Mrs. VanAuken replied that she was only'suggesting
maybe a list of people who have done the work themselves to post in the building department
for reference. Mr. Lang commented that the Standards for Rehabilitation would be made
available for the normal copy fee that is charged by the city for duplication of documents.
That fee is .20 or .25 cents. These standards are a partial expectation of this commission
toward the property owners who are anticipating work on their property. Mrs. Lord
commented that many of the homes on Butternut Ridge Rd. have had changes made to them,
but that is part of their history. Shingle siding was a change that many of the houses have
made. Mr. Lang commented that one of the things the board should work on is having a
letter available for property owners on Butternut Ridge that will provide them with guidance
as to what might be acceptable to this board. Mr. Barker questioned if this letter will be
handed out or mailed to everyone on Butternut. Mr. Lang replied that he thinks it should be
mailed to everyone on Butternut.
5. Mr. Lang commented that there was a suggestion forwarded to the board members about a
month ago with some suggestions from himself. He has had responses from Mr. Barker and
Mr. Miller as to what types of activities and what types of remodels and re-constructions of
homes on Butternut might be expedited, such as the Freed's. Mr. Gareau Jr. commented that
with his soon anticipated departure from Council he will be turning his attention towards
those unresolved matters that are out there that he has been involved in. This would be one
of them and it is his intention to present to Mr. Lang legislation that will work toward that
end. He thinks it may be best to draft a piece of legislation embodying the recommendations
of both Mr. Lang and Mr. Barker together with some of his personnal observations, so that
2
