N
Henry Caster; 27501 Butternut Ridae Rd.
The proposal consists of siding. Going from wood siding to vinyl siding.
Chairman Lord called the interested parties forward to review the proposal. Mr. Caster indicated
that his representative from the siding company was not present and questioned if he could be
heard at a later time in the meeting. 1VIi-s. Lord indicated that would be fine.
After addressing the Heaton's and Mr. Was, Mrs. Lord questioned if Mr. Caster was ready to be
heard. Mr. Caster indicated that his representative still wasn't present, but he could talk to the
board and let them know where he wants to go with this project. Mrs. Lord indicated that Mr.
Caster was here about a year ago and was looking for a roof. She assumes he stayed dry during
the winter. He indicated that he did get his new roof and it looks the same as it did before. Mrs.
Lord indicated.that the Caster house is on the corner of the entrance to the library. It is an
O.H.I. house and was built in 1854. Mr. Barker noted that Mr. Caster was here October 9,
2000, discussing his roof that the board approved and then they had a short discussion about
adding vinyl siding. Mr. Caster indicated that the new siding would be mostly lap siding. There
is some drop siding on one section of the house. The intention is to vinyl side it all in the same
type siding. He read the work statement from DiSilvestro Roofing to himself, "Install
Brentwood siding with costumer color choice including half inch insulation board on house".
"Cover all sofits with bedding as needed, cover all window door and trim in aluminum casinas,
cover all fascia in aluminum coil stop". "Fencing will be replaced with new viny] fence". He
showed a sample of the siding. Mr. Barker questioned if they were not going to cover the back
porch area. Mr. Caster replied that they are just going to refinish that redwood siding. Mrs.
Lord questioned what color the chosen siding was. Mr. Corell replied Brentwood silver gray.
Mrs. O'Rourke questioned if the house was white right now. Mr. Caster replied it is a gray.
Mrs. Lord questioned if the trim would be gray also. Mr. Caster indicated that the trim would be
white. Mrs. Lord questioned if they would be changing the windows. Mr. Caster replied that
they would be leaving the windows alone. Mr. Corell questioned how many times this house has
been altered. Mrs. Lord replied that as many houses of that age, it has probably been altered
more times than the owner even knows. Mrs. O'Rourke questioned how long Mr. Caster has
lived in this house. Mr. Caster replied since 1952. Mr. Barker questioned if he has not made any
additions since 1952. Mr. Caster replied just a small screened in back porch. Mrs. Lord
questioned when he had that done. Mr. Caster replied about 20 years ago. Mr. Barker indicated
that Mr. Caster was here when Mr. Biszantz went through for his vinyl siding. The reason the
board was against Mr. Biszantz siding his house was because that house was pretty much the
original, but with this house there has been so many changes to it that it is not the original house.
He had an opinion about this proposal before the meeting, but from listening to all this house has
been through and driving by it, his opinion has changed. Mrs. Lord questioned if there was
basement under the whole house. Ivlr. Caster indicated that there is basement under the two-
story area and there is basement under the east wing. There used to be a fireplace in the easf
wing. Mrs. Lord questioned if he had considered having it painting or going with wood. Mr.
Caster indicated that the cost of maintaining the wood persuaded them to go with vinyl siding.
Mrs. Lord questioned what the condition of the wood was that they are covering. Mr. Caster
replied anywhere from good to fair. There are areas that should be re-done if they don't get the
vinyl siding permit. Mr. Corell questioned if this proposal included protecting the wood
underneath the new siding, in case somebody down the road wants to take the siding off and go
2
