CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
°'TOGETHER WE CAN 1VIAKE A DIFFERENCE"
LAleTDMARKS COlVIMISSION
1VIINUTES APRIL 9, 2001
7:30 P.M.
OLD TOWN HALL
1. ROLL CALL:
Acting Chairman Lord called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.
PRESENT: Acting Chairman B. Lord, Board members, G. Corell, L. VanAuken, C. Kasler,
K. O'Rourke, D. Lind, M. Davis, and P. Barker.
ABSENT: A. Smeraldi.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF NIINUTES: The minutes of the Landmarks Commission
meeting held on 7anuary 8, 2001 have been submitted for approval.
G. Corell motioned to approve the minutes dated January 8, 2001 with one minor spelling
change. K. O'Rourke seconded the motion and was unanimously approved.
III. NEW BUSINESS:
Rebecca's Florist: 27706 Lorain Road:
Proposal consists of siding existing business.
Acting Chairman Lord indicated that the board would discuss Rebecca's Florist first because
she has found that it is not in the Historic District. Mr. DiRosa, the contractor, is just
repairing siding that has blown off or worn out over time. Mr. Corell commented that he had
thought this property was in the historic district. When CVS came through, Council had to
have this historic district outlined and this property north of CVS was in the outline. Ms.
Kasler indicated that the moratorium might have changed to include some of the parcels
north of CVS. She then suggested that she could make a phone call and probably find out.
1VIs. Lord commented that it would be a good idea to check. Ms. Kasler indicated that she
could not get an answer. So she will find out for sure tomorrow. Mr. Corell suggested that
the board should go forward and treat this proposal as it is in the historic district. If
tomorrow we find that it isn't in the district then who cares, but if it is and we approve this
proposal then they will have their signed certificate and everything will be worked out. Mr.
Corell questioned if Mr. DiRosa would repair it in some places before he just covers it with
vinyl siding. Mr. DiRosa replied that he would repair anyplace that needed it. Ms. Lord
commented that the MetroScan sheet indicated the building was built in the 1900's, but she
knows it was built in 1898. Mr. Corell agreed. Ms. Lord questioned if the board had any
further questions.
C. Kasler motioned to grant a certificate of appropriateness to Rebecca's Florist of 27706
Lorain Rd. to approve the addition of vinyl replacement siding on soffits corner boards and
on wood framing around the flower shop. The motion was seconded by K. O'Rourke and
unanimously approved. Granted 4/9/01.
