1
2. John Kuhl26030 Butternut Ridize Rd.
Proposal consists of alteration to second floor and addition to house including basement,
family room, and master bedroom with bath.
Acting Chairman Lord indicated that Mr. and Mrs. Kuhl would like to add two more
bedrooms, bathroom and a laundry room. Ms. Lord questioned if this was all to be at the
back of the house. Mr. Kuhl indicated that the addition is to the back of the house. He is 45
ft. from the sidewalk so he has to get a variance for not being 50 ft. from the sidewalk.
Nothing is being built towards the front of the house. He is taking the roof off completely
and adding a complete second floor. Mr. Barker questioned if their house was a brick
bungalow. Mr. Kuhl replied yes. Mr. Barker questioned if they were going to re-brick the
front. Mr. Kuhl replied that he already has the bricks to re-brick the whole addition. He is
going to keep the double hung windows that he has now in the existing house. He plans on
using the same color and style shingles that is on the existing house. Mr. Barker indicated
that he just didn't want to see a half brick half vinyl sided house. Ms. Lord questioned when
the house was built. 1Vli-. Kuhl replied 1941. W. Kuhl indicated that the only change beside
the addition would be an overhang for ventilation purposes that the City is making him put
in. The house will have the same brick and the same windows; it will just be taller. Ms.
Lord questioned if he could explain what he is proposing in his site plan. W. Kuhl showed
the site plan and tried to explain everything to the board. He is not changing anything on the
existing first floor. The house will no longer look like a bungalow.
L. VanAuken motioned to grant a certificate of appropriateness to John Kuhl of 26030
Butternut Ridge Rd. whose proposal consists of alterations to second floor and addition to
house including basement, family room, and master bedroom with bath. The addition is to
match existing brick on house, and the roof is to be replaced with same color style shingles.
M. Davis seconded the motion and was unanimously approved. Granted 4/9/01.
IV. COMMUNICATIONS:
A) Acting Chairman Lord indicated that the certificate of appropriate for Darin McEleney of
26971 Butternut Ridge Rd. has been turned in to the Building Department for final
approval_
B) Acting Chairman Lord indicated that the agenda indicates that the board does need to
approve a final Chairperson and Vice Chairperson for the year 2001. Mr. Corell
indicated that they should set a meeting month date to have the elections of the officers.
It shouldn't be in January because if there are new board members they would have had
no time to meet the other members and you can't make someone vote for people they
don't know. 1VTs. Lord indicated that this year in 3anuary the board had no Chairperson.
So, as Vice Chairperson she has led the last few meetings. Mr. Corell indicated that the
board should vote to give the Chairperson power to select a board member to fill in as the
Pro-Temp Chairperson in the case that both Chairperson and Vice Chairperson would
have to be absent. Ms. Lord indicated that it is in Landmarks ordinance that they may
adopt and enforce rules for procedures to be filed by the Commission. Mr. Barker
suggested that there are rules and procedures for every commission and if this board
mirrored that it would be acceptable.
2
