Thompson.
ALSO PRESENT: Clerk of Commissions; D. Rote.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF NIINUTES:
Chairman Raig indicated that no packets were sent out. Review and correction of the August
7, 2001 minutes would take place at the October meeting.
III. NEW BUSINESS: -
l. Review documentation on other municipalities Cultural Arts Commissions.
Mr. Raig indicted that the Mayors secretary has submitted a matrix/chart. It shows that 58
cities were contacted to find out if they had a Cultural Arts Commission and none of the 58
cities did, however, 4 of the cities have cultural arts buildings that are not run or owned by
the city. Mrs. Martindale suggested that other cities might call their art representatives
something different. The Clerk commented that the Mayors secretary was trying to find out
if other cities had a commission, so the board could review their City ordinances or by-laws
regarding Cultural Arts. Mr. Raig suggested expanding the search further than surrounding
areas and questioned if any board members had suggestions. Mr. Garland suggested that he
had a book that listed all the arts and festivals in the state of Ohio. There is Ohio Arts
Council that has an Internet site, which list Art Councils in the state of Ohio. Mr. Raig
suggested that the clerk look into the site and contact some of the councils listed for
information. Mr. Garland suggested that Berea would be hosting the Chautauqua festival
next summer. He is not sure what will be done, but he has requested a representative be sent
to speak at the next chamber of commerce meeting. The festival will run June 20th through
the 24th, 2002. Mrs. App indicated that there is a big cultural art center that serves artists in
the area. She ran a search on the internet and found a list of Art Councils. Mr. Garland
suagested that the Ohio Art Council funds an artist in residence who travels to schools
speaking, however the city does not receive the money, the artist does. Mrs. Martindale
believes that an art festival would do well in the North Olmsted area. She suggested having a
Victorian festival in November at the library. North Olmsted should look at having a festival
at least once a year. Mrs. Beach questioned if any monies had been appropriated for the
board. Mr. Raig indicated that at this point there has been no City funds appropriated to the
board. At the first meeting a sub committee was setup to look into receiving grants. Mrs.
Beach suggested that most grant money is only granted if it meets specific criteria. Mrs. App
commented that she has been searching the internet and inost federal funds have eligibility
requirements, 1. There has to be a three-year history of programming. 2. There has to be a
professiona] staff that can volunteer the time to accomplish the project. 3. The grant money
