Mr. Thompson indicated that he <br />had received brochures from the Abington foundation, which include a report for the year <br />2000 and reviewed the information on grants that he has received. He brought information <br />for the board members to review and to see how to apply for grants. Mr. Thompson <br />indicated that he would put a packet together so the clerk can make copies for all the board <br />members. He reviewed a few of the packets that he had received from the Abington <br />foundation. Mrs. Apps suggested that another place to look is, www.arts.usa.or; that is <br />based in Washington DC. They also have pamphlets that you can request. Mr. Garland <br />suggested that the board would need to be 501-C3 to qualify for funds. Mr. Raig indicated <br />that the board would need to review the charter, which was established in 1969, and address <br />changes that they would like to see made. He questioned if the board wanted to make <br />sugjested changes themselves or wait to see what other Cities do. Mrs. Beach suggested that <br />it would be a good idea to look at what this board wants first. She questioned if at the last <br />meeting was any discussion given to what goals each member had for the board. Mrs. App <br />suggested that the Northern Ohio Live magazine lists all kinds of things that are taking place. <br />She questioned if the board only wanted to do what other areas were doing or does the board <br />want to do something new. Mrs. Martindale commented that she felt that if there was not a <br />building/structure to house whatever events the commission wanted; it would be hard to get a <br />following. Discussion was given to looking at opening up the board to what is currently out <br />there. The board should look at events being brought to North Olmsted. Mrs. Beach <br />suggested that the board could help bring things to the city. <br />Mr. Raig sugaested brainstorming on thoughts for a mission statement for the board. He <br />sug?ested that each member write down what goals they would like to see accomplished. <br />They would review the lists at the next meeting. He suggested that the meeting would take at <br />least 2 hours to review all the goals. <br />2. Review other boards and corrunissions charters regarding appointment. <br />Mr. Raig reviewed that at the last meetina the 1Vlayor suggested the board look at the charter <br />and determine whether or not the board would like to expand the number of inembers as well <br />as look at overlapping terms. He agrees that terms should overlap, and believes that the <br />current board should stay on after December. 1VLr. G-arland indicated that the way he reads <br />the charter, at the end of 2001 all of the current members terms will be expired. Mr. Raig <br />indicated that the clerk made copies of the charters for the other boards and Commissions <br />that are currently in place. The clerk briefly reviewed that most of the boards/commissions <br />have staggering terms so that there is always a member that knows what is going on. Mr. <br />_ Raig suggested he would have the clerk look into how the board could change the tenns and <br />what is needed to make the changes. He suggested that the board should determine how <br />many members there should be as well as how the terms would overlap. Mrs. Martindale <br />suggested 1VIrs. Barbara Brown be appointed to the board. The board addressed setting up a <br />larger board and establishing a charter that is more up to date. <br />IVLrs. Beach brought up looking at local civic groups that could fund the Cultural Arts Board. <br />Mr. Raig suggested that he felt that the board would try to work closely with the schools as <br />well as the city of North Olmsted.
