I;
connection was made between the new gazebo and the existing roof. It looks a little clumsy over
there. Mrs. Nadar questioned what the purpose of the porch was. Mr. Deichmann indicated that
it's intended for golfers to be able to wait out a passing shower. Mr. Liggett commented that he
golfs here every Thursday. He is always waiting around front in order to see if his partner is
arriving. 1VIr. Yager commentied that he couldn't see how this could be any more than a conceptual
approval in the fact that he sees no elevations or heights, no materials, and no real reference in
understanding of that ramp. He likes the proposal conceptually very much; he would particularly
like to see some of it leek over to the ballroom entrance in terms of this quality scenario. For this
board to say that this is acceptable and then ask the next applicant to do what they've asked every
applicant to do, would really be a disservice. Coming from the City of which we're members of
and this is a City proposal; it's particularly odd that it wasn't asked to have more information
together in the packets at tonight's meeting. He knows that isn't Mr. Deichmann's responsibility,
but the architect is not here. He doesn't know if these are paper-machae windows or if they are
pieces of paper on plywood to look like windows. Until the board sees something in writing
saying what it is, it would be a conceptual approval at best. Mr. Zergott indicated that he would
like to table this proposal until they have a complete set of plans, building materials, and
conceptual drawings as to how this is going to meet up with the existing building. Mr. Yager
agreed that they should either table it or give it conceptual approval so that it can move on and
come back with something more definitive than what they have here. Mr. Liggett indicated that he
liked the addition to a certain degree. The sad part is they are keeping the ballroom area which is
this big cylindrical vault and he would Iike to see some of that brought into the new. Even if it
means instead of an octagon gazebo, make it a round gazebo. Or even the octagon seating area,
make it round so they are complimenting round to round. Mr. Yager suggested that round
buildings cost a little more. The architect and the City should look at linking the two together to
make it a more consistent facility. Mr. Zergott suggested that the parking lot side has already done
guite a bit of brick work. If you're looking from_the_parking lot, this_brick. is carrying_ around
already, so that side will be a continuation of the improvements. Mr. Yager indicated that W.T.W.
certainly is not brand new to this whole thing and he is particularly surprised that they just ignored
the whole process al] together. Mr. Deichmann indicated that the City forced the schedule on
them. They were given, in his opinion, an extremely rigorous and aggressive schedule to follow.
Mr. Zergott questioned when they wanted to do this. Mr. Deichmann replied that the intention is
to advertise in about two to three weeks. Mr. Yager suggested that they hold off advertising until
it comes through this board, and he would tell the Building Department that we can't let them do
this same thing again. They are not going to build this until fall after the golf season anyway. Mr.
Liggett indicated that then they would not be able to have a nice ground breaking and get the City
all involved and all that good stuff. Mr. Yager suggested that they don't have a meeting in August
and they could ask the board for a special meeting. Mr. Liggett indicated that since they are just a
board of recommendations they could bypass us completely and go on to Council. Mr. Yager
suggested that he would like to have their opinions to be brought to the attention of B.Z.D. and
Council. Mr. Zergott suggested that someone make that motion and they will set up a special
meeting.
M. Yager motioned to table Springvale C'rolf Course of 5871 Canterbury Rd. with the following
conditions. 1) The board likes the direction of the project, but has not enough information to
make any decisions on it. 2) The architect should be present at the next meeting and bring with
them a landscaping plan, the existing elevations of the entire facility with some thought towards the
ballroom entrance and tying in the pieces and parts of the overall facility. 3) They look at the
A.D.A. components. 4) Material sheet, the application and requirements that every other
applicant is asked to produce. 5) Where do you put the golf bags when you enter the facility? 6)
2
