? <br />.., <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE" <br />ARCffiTECTURAL REVIEW BOARD <br />MINUTES - DECEMBER 18, 2002 <br />COUNCILS CHAMBERS <br />5:30 P.M. <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairman Zergott called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Chairman, B. Zergott, Board Members; K. Schulz, J. Nader and M. Yager. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Building Commissioner, D. Conway and Clerk of Commissions, D. Rote. <br />U. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES: <br />The Architectural Review Board minutes for November 20, 2002 have been submitted for <br />approval. <br />K. Schulz motioned to approve the Architectural Review Board minutes dated November <br />20, 2002 as written. M. Yager seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. Mr. <br />Yager and other board members commented that they liked the new format of the minutes. They <br />found the minutes easier to read and follow. <br />III. SIGNS: <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />Daniel E. Margulies (Pepper 7oe's Restaurant); 24532 Lorain Road: <br />Proposal consists of interior renovation for restaurant including new handicapped ramp, canvas <br />canopy, railings, signage, etc. Note: Planning Commission tabled this proposal on 7-9-02 and <br />referred this to Architectural Review Board 11-12-02. Architectural Review Board tabled this 11- <br />20-02. <br />Chairman Zergott called all interested parties forward to review the proposal. Mr. Margulies, <br />the Project Coordinator and Mr. George the owner each came forward to review the proposal. <br />Applicants presentation; <br />Mr. Margulies indicated that the parapet color is changed and the railing is now vertical. They <br />incorporated Mr. Yager's suggestion to use pepper cutouts. Mr. Yager questioned if the cutouts <br />would be constructed from wood or metal and would they be painted. Mr. Margulies indicated <br />that they would be painted metal. <br />Board members questions & comments; <br />Mr. Yager thought the goal was to use plasma cutting along the front, which can be open or <br />opaque, as the applicants want. Mr. George questioned if Mr. Yager wanted a sculpture or <br />something of that nature. Mr. Yager felt that more was needed to draw customers to the site. <br />The suggestions made at the last meeting were meant to help draw customers to your restaurant. <br />The canopy remains the same and their request was to make it more dynamic or prominent so that <br />it could become a calling card for the restaurant. The railing creates a separation between the <br />wooden area, block wall and glass entrance. There is still automobile activity taking place on the <br />site so the applicants need to divert patrons attention away from the automobile component. Mr. <br />George described his other restaurant to the board members and questioned if they had seen it. <br />They used neon lights not only on the signage but placed neon lights on the building as well. He <br />questioned if the board would like them to use the neon lights on this site. The applicants were
