Cambridge Crossings with relatively small lot sizes of approximately 80 by 180 feet is
not the place for non-conforming shed the size of which would exceed code by nearly
67%.
This non-conforming shed will be virtually unshielded from any type of tree or
vegetation, and due to its size will be unsightly to all surrounding neighbors.
This non-conforming shed with a roof line that is 11 feet high, 5 feet higher than the
fence the Campbell's recently installed, will be as much of an eyesore to my wife and I as
it will be to the neighbors either side of the Campbells who have not yet erected a fence
on the sides of their yard.
The request for variance states the shed is for lawn equipment and a woodworking shop.
Since there is already a storage shed on the Campbell property, this variance is obviously
primarily for a woodworking shop.
A woodworking shop with its attendant noises of sawing, drilling sanding, planning,
routing and hammering will shatter the peacefulness of a quiet neighborhood. Such
noises could happen at any time of day or night.
We find it interesting that the Campbells don't want this woodworking shop in their
garage or basement. Their reason is undoubtedly due to the noise and sawdust pollution
problems.
Yet it is OK to foist these problems upon neighbors by placing a woodworking shop
virtually in their backyards.
A peaceful social evening or Sunday morning on the back porch or deck, and perhaps
even a restful sleep at night, may well become a thing of the past. Our back porch and the
rear decks of several neighbors will be a mere 30 to 50 feet from the offending noises.
Property values will be negatively affected.
A neighbor's shed that is non-conforming and used as a woodworking shop will turn
away more than one prospective purchaser of our homes if we should need to sell at a
later date.
A dangerous precedent will be set if this variance is granted. If this variance is approved,
future requests can be expected for the construction of non-conforming buildings for such
things as boats, camping trailers, perhaps an antique car and who knows what else.
As I mentioned earlier the Campbells ,erected a fence on their rear property line which
partially blocks our view of neighboring yards, and shades our gardens.. A shed with a
roof line 5 feet higher than their fence would limit our view and shade our gardens even
more.
