historic place in Ohio. Mrs. Davis indicated the ballroom was started in 1922 and finished in
1923. She mentioned some of the history of the facility. Mrs. Lord asked for input on what would
go on a plaque for Springvale. Mrs. O'Rourke mentioned a recent article on the golf course.
Mrs. Davis said she understands that some other goups have discovered the basement in the old
libra.ry. They are going to move all of the records from the Old Town Hall basement to the
basement of the old library. Mrs. VanAuken pointed out it has been flooded and would not
recommend doing that. Mrs. Davis added that she spoke with Don Copeland. Mr. Copeland
indicated they will get a new computer. He is aware that Landmarks does not have much in the
bud€;et. He asked Mrs. Davis to let him know if there is any money left come October because he
would like the Commission to help pay for the computer. Mrs. Davis mentioned the S.I.T.E.S
student, Matt Duffy, is spending most of his time at the Senior Center.
Mrs. Lord asked that they move on to discuss the library meeting. She indicated she believes the
meeting went well. The two architects were well received, and they seemed to have done their
homework. She added there were a lot of questions. Donna Meyers, the library manager,
presented her piece of it. Mrs. Lord said there were more questions about the collections and the
interior than about the exterior. She said there were questions about the water retention basin.
She added that Mark Yager, a member of the Architectural Review Board, had some good
comments about the way the siding is. She pointed out that he has been very supportive of
Lan(imarks. Mrs. O'Rourke asked if they had a picture. Mrs. Lord replied that they did have some
renderings and a model. They showed that they had taken the design from Old Town Hall and it
sho-ivs up around the building. They talked about the way they have the egress, and it will keep it
froni being a cut through. They will have a form of a speed bump, more of a raised walkway
through the parking lot that will serve the purpose of a speed bump. They discussed the style of
the building. Mrs. Lord mentioned that the architects drove around North Olmsted to get an idea
of ttie design but were told when they came in that it is not want is wanted. She said there were
people who were negative about a number of things. She said the architects showed some long-
terrr., plans if the triangle would ever go all the way to the point. One of the things she liked is the
park.ing would stay internal if they do go to the point. Mrs. VanAuken said she saw some
mistakes with the old Porter Library that she hopes they will not make with ours. She mentioned
problems with their meeting rooms, and added they do not meet the needs of the community. Mrs.
Lorci said they talked quite a bit about the meeting space. It will be a large space and it is flexible.
She said it is designed so they can drop a barrier so it can be used when the library isn't open.
They are being creative in the internal use.
VII.
