O'1Vlalley, Assistant Clerk of Commissions, A.
Kilbane (attended portion of ineeting)
Mrs. Lord made a motion to amend the agenda in order to have Mayor Musial swear in Tom
Dubowski as a member of the Landmarks Commission. The motion was unanimously approved and
Thomas Dubowski was sworn in by the Mayor.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF NIlNUTES: The Landmarks Commission minutes of the May
13, 2002 meeting have been submitted for approval. Mr. Barker pointed out that the Mr. Heil
referred to in the minutes under "also present" was actually, Dan Erdelack, Mrs. Heil's son. P. Barker
made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected. The motion .was seconded by L. VanAuken and
unanimously approved.
III. NEW BU5INESS: -
? Certificate of Appropriateness for Steve Soltas, 26723 Butternut Ridge Road
Mrs. Lord called Mr. Steve Soltas forward to explain his request. Mr. Soltas indicated he would like
to fence in the back part of his yard. The board members reviewed his plans. Mr. Soltas introduced
his contractor, Matt McMillan, of Affordable Fence. Mrs. Lord asked if the entire perimeter would
be green as indicated. Mr. Soltas said that was correct and the fence will be 4 ft. high. Mr. Barker
asked the applicant about the 25-foot side indicated on his diagram. He asked if there is another 4-
foot gate or if it is a 25-foot gate. N1r. Soltas replied it is a 4-foot gate. Mrs. Lord inquired about
markings on the diagram and wondered if it is an existing fence. Mr. Soltas indicated it is a fence
belonging to the neighbors. Mrs. VanAuken asked what the pressing need is for the fence. 1VIr.
Soltas said the fence they currently have is pretty old and has holes at the bottom. He added they
would like a new fence for appearances and would extend it all the way down. He mentioned the
green coloring would help it blend in with the yard. Mr. Barker asked if the applicant has any plans
to do landscaping in front of the fence facing Butternut Ridge. Mr. Soltas indicated he does not have
plans for landscaping. Mr. Barker suggested that he put a few bushes on either side on the 25-foot
portion, and something on the 4-foot side to help disguise the fence a bit. Mr. Soltas said the 4-foot
side, on the left-hand side of the house, will have a swing gate so they really can't put anything there.
Mr. Barker asked if the gate will be in the center on the 25 ft. side and he asked if they could put
some type of shrubbery in that area. Mr. 5oltas indicated he could do something there. Mrs. Lord
pointed out the board does not want to get in the way of people doing things they need to do but they
would like to continue to maintain the integrity of the street as best they can.
P. Barker made a motion to approve the fence for Steve Soltas, 26723 Butternut Ridge Road, as
indicated with the addition of shrubbery on the east side of the property (street side), chain link and
poles to be of green vinyl. The motion was seconded by K. O'Rourke and unanimously approved.
1Vlotion Carried.
