,
l
e Certificate of Appropriateness for Ronald DeLorenzo, 26005 Butternut Ridge Road
Mrs. Lord called Mr. Ronald DeLorenzo forward to review his request. Mr. DeLorenzo indicated he
would like to put an addition on his home. He shared the plans with the board members. He pointed
out his home is not visible from Butternut Ridge; it is about 500 ft. ofFthe road. It is the 3rd driveway
east of Canterbury on the south side of the street. He presented several pictures of his home to the
board and pointed out where the addition would be built. He indicated it would be 18x18 ft. There
was discussion about the position of the new addition and the previous addition put on the house.
Mr. DeLorenzo said he has 2 1/2 acres of land and it is not near anyone else. Mrs. O'Rourke
mentioned the Building Department should be aware he is the proper footage off of the lot line. Mr.
DeLorenzo indicated they are aware of it. He added the room would be a study off of the master
bedroom. He said the architecture will all be the same. They will use Pella Windows, the same roof,
and the same siding. He indicated the previous addition was put on about 6 years ago. He will now
have roughly 4000 sauare feet on one level. The new addition will be 325 square feet. There was
further discussion about the ]ocation of the house and its visibility from Canterbury and the golf
course. Mr. Dubowski said the drawing shows the chimney being vinyl sided. Mr. DeLorenzo said
the new chimney will match the existing chimney on the house, which is sided. ' Mrs. VanAuken
asked how old the house is. Mr. DeLorenzo replied he believes that the original house was built in
1955 and was a 1700 square foot small ranch that is now close to 4000 square feet. He said it was a
white ranch for a long time and then a gray, cedar-sided contemporary looking house. He bought the
home from his in-laws estate. It is more traditional and Western Reserve looking now. Mrs. Lord
asked if he had any idea why it was built so far offthe road. Mr. DeLorenzo said that he thought that
back in the '50's there was a possibility of his driveway being a road to the golf course. There was
discussion about the old aolf course and plans for a development in that area.
J. Lang made a motion to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness for Ronald DeLorenzo, 26005
Butternut Ridge Road, to construct a home addition per the plans submitted. The motion was
seconded by P. Barker and unaniinously approved. Motion Carried.
• Certificate of Appropriateness for George Corell, 26640 Butternut Ridge Road
Mrs. Lord asked Mr. Corell to explain his request and asked for clarification on the address of the
property in question. Mr. Corell indicated that the address where the work will be done is 26640
Butternut Ridge. The address of the contractor is 26971, and he is the one who applied for the
permit. Mrs. Lord said the board metnbers did not receive any plans for this project. Mr. Darin
McEleney, the contractor on the project, came forward. Mr. Corell pointed out he is looking to put a
deck on the house which will be located on the rear corner, the northwest side, and will come off the
back porch and come around the side. He referred to drawings. He said there will be latticework on
the side that faces the street for the purpose of planting bushes and roses to disguise the deck. He
cannot go off the back because it is paved. Mr.1VIcEleney said the plans he turned in to the Building
Department showed the location of the deck. It shows there is plenty of distance from the closest
edge of the house. Mrs. Lord asked how far it would be off of the street. Mr. Corell said it would
probably be about 75 feet off the street. Mrs. VanAuken said there would not be much chance of
seeing it from the street. Mr. Corell said it would be visible if traveling east. Mr. McEleney
mentioned the latticework that would go up over the south side with rose bushes to conceal the deck
from that angle. Mr. Corell indicated the"door access will be in the back. Mrs. O'Rourke inquired
about another house near the Corell property. Mr. Corell said he has neighbors who share a drive but
he has his own driveway. He added that his home was built in 1913. Mrs. Lord asked about the style
of the proposed latticework given that his home was built in 1913. Mr. Barker asked if they would
use stain paint or go with a natura] appearance. Mr. Corell indicated they would use a clear stain.
Mr. Barker asked how far out from the side of the house the deck would be. Mr. Corell replied it will
be 16 feet out and no variance is required by the City. Mr. McEleney pointed out the corner of the
2
