:
Mr. Barker indicated he received a phone call from Council President O'Crrady. Mr. O'Grady pointed
out that he ran into Mrs. Lawson at the park and she informed him that she is trying to organize a
potluck get together for the long-time residents of North Olmsted. Mr. O'Crrady mentioned the
Landmarks Commission to Mrs. Lawson and he gave her Mr. Barker's phone number. Mr. Barker
received her phone number as well and he then called her on Sunday, July 7. He invited her to attend
the meeting and to give a presentation on what she is trying to organize for July 21St. Mrs. Marge
Lawson came forward to review the flyer that explains the event. It has been in the Sun Herald twice
under the Around Town column. It has also appeared in the West Life. Mrs. Lawson added that on
Thursdays in the Sun Herald, Diana Smith has a genealogy column and she has indicated it will be in
her column on the 11''. Mrs. Lawson said that NIr. O'Grady inferred that he would do all he could.
She said she has written a few things down if the board would like to keep anything in mind as far as
helping out. The event is mainly to have people get together that have the interest of the historic
district at heart, or people who have family members that were early settlers. There is a lot of
information that we can gain from each other. She has received several phone calls now from people
who are interested. Mrs. Lawson jave Diana Smith a bit more information as to the location of the
event. It will be at the NOCC Pavilion at North Olmsted Park. She said it is a no cost, no expense
affair as far as she is concerned, except for a few minor expenses they will try to absorb such as
providing something to drink. She has listed things they will furnish along with memorabilia. There
are items that the board or the City can help out with because she believes it should be a City project.
Her first request was to use a city facility to post a notice. She was turned down at Sprinavale and
told that the laws do not permit it. That doesn't help her when she is trying to get the word out that it
is open to the public and a community affair. She thinks the lihrary or City Hall could have posted it.
She asked if Landmarks could come up with bulletin boards or something along that line to put
ineinorabilia on. She has a 38 inches wide by approximately 117 inches long architecture paper that
would be good for people to look at to see all the generations back to the Mayflower and beyond. She
indicated that Mr. O'Grady had mentioned to her that perhaps something can be put on the cable
chamlel. She also suggested that a member of the board or a government official be present and
perhaps give an opening address. A photographer would be nice to have on hand to give the event
some publicity. Mr. Barker pointed out that the board does not have a lot of the things she mentioned
available to it. He suggested that Mrs. Lawson call Ray Thomas, the Service Director, and speak with
him. He then recommended that she speak with Mary Creadon as well. Mrs. Lawson pointed out that
she did write a couple of letters to the Mayor. Mr. Barker said he believes the Service Department
may have access to some of the things she is inquiring about. The board thanked Mrs. Lawson for her
attendance and comments.
IV. COMMUNICATIONS:
Article froin the West Life regarding Bain Park Cabin in Fairview receiving a marker
Cleveland Restoration Society-Invitation to 30`h Annual Membership Meeting & Preservation Awards
Fagade Magazine from Cleveland Restoration Society
e Mrs. Lord mentioned there was an interesting article in terms of what was discussed at the last
meeting. It mentioned landscaping and the exterior of structures. The article pointed out if someone
wanted a designation, they would have to remove aluminum and vinyl siding. She said the board
might want to have copies of the article, on paaes 10-11, available to give to people. Mrs. Lord will
have Mrs. Kilbane make 10 copies and have the article available to the board. She mentioned Mr.
Corell might be interested in the subject since he was before the board last month as an applicant.
3
