CONIIvIITTEE REPORTS:
VI. OLD BUSINESS:
Report on genealogy of Biddulph family
? Commissioners were provided copies to review and originals were returned to Mrs. Davis
Status of Landmark for Springvale
e Mrs. Lord said it would be nice to have some kind of chronology on the Springvale land. It would
help the board visualize what they would like to do with any kind of plaque. Mrs. Davis mentioned
that the board had previously discussed inviting Rose Biddulph to one of the meetings. She said the
board can offer to her what they have in mind in terms of pictures. Mrs. Lord said they had not gotten
far enough in discussions to get to that point. It could be a goal to have a history wall at Sprinavale
where pictures are displayed. That is something to pursue in a meeting with the Mayor. She asked if
they should start there or with Marty Young, the Facility Manager at Springvale. Mr. Barker
indicated it would be good to start with Mr. Young first. He added that Mr. Young seemed to be
receptive when they met with him last year. Mrs. Lord mentioned that the whole golf course has
changed confijurations over time. There were three courses lined up in a semi circle at one time. She
said there are questions about how many holes are the original Biddulph holes and that is the kind of
thing they need the answer to before they showcase it. It may not have to go in the ordinance but they
should verify the information they gather. Chairman Lord asked how the board would like to proceed.
Mr. Corell asked whether there is a general perception that if they put all material together there will
be a friendly reception at City Hall. He wondered if they are rocking the boat. Mr. Barker said he
believes they should gather the information, present it to Mr. Dailey who is the Landmarks
representative on Council. It would then be up to Council to pass it. Mr. Corell said it would be wise
to present it to Mr. Miller, Councilman-at-Large, as well so he can co-sponsor it. Mrs. Lord
questioned if they should fill out a form as best they can based on what they know now. They would
then have that information and any other research to share with Rose Biddulph and can determine if it
is accurate; or do they do it the reverse way and bring her in and go from there. Mr. Barker said he
thinks the board should do its thing first and then bring in Mrs. Biddulph (5cheefl for more detail and
background. Mrs. Lord asked if there was a volunteer to work with Mrs. Davis. NIr. Lang said if they
need to go to the archives they are extremely helpful there and can direct them to the riaht books. It
shouldn't take more than two days. He suggested getting the parcel numbers for Springvale first.
Mrs. Lord suggested that Mrs. Davis and Mr. Lang work on it together and they should try to have a
report for the August ineeting under old business.
Walking Tour of Butternut Ridae
? Mrs. Lord has to arrange a time to get together with Mr. Neiberding. Mrs. Davis and Mrs. O'Rourke
will be a part of the project. Mrs. Lord reminded the board there had been discussion about doing it in
October.
4
