? A
IV. COMMUNICATIONS:
• Memo from Office of Commissions requesting Landmarks' opinion on library light fixtures
• Memo from Councilman Miller to the Service Director regarding light fixtures/historical marker
• Memo from Office of Commissions inviting members of the Board of Zoning and Development to the
Landmarks meeting to discuss light fixtures
• Letter from 7ames Rokakis, County Treasurer, regarding Heritage Home Loan Program
Mrs. Lord said for the city to be a part of the program there is a fee. Mr. Barker said he recalls a few
years ago the treasurer came to a Council meeting regarding low interest loans for homeowners making
improvements. He believes they had to pass legislation to get on board. This looks like another step.
Mrs. Lord asked if they should go on record with some kind of interest even though they don't have all
the information at this point. Mr. Barker said he thinks it would be nice for the finance department and
the building department to know the board would be in favor of something like this for the residents. As
a city, they could come up with a flyer to distribute to the historic district. Mrs. Lord asked if they can
make a decision regardless of what the finance department says. Mr. Barker said they can and it is up to
Council to approve or disapprove whether they want to participate. Mrs. Lord said it clearly has the
potential of assisting residents of North Olmsted. It costs $100 to get into it and she would hate for it to
come back at them later that they didn't support or pursue it.
J. Lang made a motion that the Landmarks Commission notify the city administration that the board is in
favor of, and in support of, partnership in the Heritage Home Loan Program offered through the
Cuyahoga County Treasurer's office for low interest renovation and preservation loans for residents in the
city. The motion was seconded by K. O'Rourke and unnnimously approved.
Mrs. Lord asked that the Office of Commissions write up a submittal for the administration with a copy
to the finance and building departments. Mrs. VanAuken asked if anyone attended a session of the
Cleveland Restoration Society Convention. Mrs. Davis indicated she attended 12 hours of class before
the convention began. She said the first portion dealt with structures that get a national plaque and the
various steps involved with that process. The rest of the session was all about different forms of
architecture and how different people brought things to the U.S. Mrs. Davis indicated she will bring her
packet of information to the next meeting.
• The Alliance Review
• Cleveland Restoration Society - Community Luncheon brochure
• The Local Historian
V. COMIVIITTEE REPORTS:
Chairman Lord indicated she needs to set a time for the three committee members to begin to work on the
research of the old houses.
VI. OLD BUSINESS:
Chairman Lord mentioned an e-mail that was sent to the city on November 8t1i from Angela Dickerson
regarding her home on Barton Rd. NLrs. Lord shared the e-mail with the board members. Mrs. O'Rourke
suggested having the resident contact the Sun Herald or the WestLife to find out about articles written
about the Barton Rd. church. Mrs. VanAuken said it may have been one of the homes they looked when
they did the survey. Mrs. Lord indicated she will contact Ms. Dickerson.
VII. JAbJOURNMENT: Chairman Lord adjourned the meeting at approximately 9:00 p.m.
. 3etty Lord, Chairman D te Annie Kilbane, Assistant Clerk of Commissions
6
