will extend from the face of the wall. Mr. Margulies said it will be 2 feet at the most. He said they will
be prominent because of the fabric but they do not extend out much. 1VIr. Yager asked which rail system
is more expensive. Mr. Margulies replied they are getting them for the same price. 1VIr. George said the
glass is $60 per foot and the picket is $45. Mr. Yager asked if they will put a few tables out in the front.
Mr. George replied they will put some decorative things out there. 1VIr. Zergott asked if they will still
put umbrellas out there even though they have the awnings. Mr. Margulies said they will, as it adds
more color. He said he understands Mr. Yager's concern about driving by the site. Mr. Ynger said they
have done a good joU with the changes. li'Ir. Zergott and Mrs. Nader agreed that it is much better. Mr.
Y1ger added that it will be more successful for the applicant. The color will draw people in and the
canopy coming forward is more prominent. He said he likes the glass railing and wished they would do it
along the whole thing. Mr. Geoi•ge said they thought of doing that but cleaning it can be an issue. Mr.
Yagei• said they have taken major steps forward. He wasn't thrilled with where the pepper and tomato
and sucli were going because he did not think they were elegant enough to be successful in terms of how
they were presented last time. He said adding the landscaping in the front, which hides the ramp, is a
benefit. The canopy coming forward and the light for the side canopies with the goose necks is an
enormous step forward. He then asked about what is on the side elevation. Mr. George said there are a
couple of awnings on the side. Mr. Yager asked if they are lighting the ramp in any way and if they are
lighting the canopy that juts forward. Mr. George said there will be down lighting. Mr. Margulies
added they also have ageneral pole light. Mr. George said the downward goose neck lights should light
the front well enough so people can walk safely. Mr. Conway pointed out they will have to meet the
minimum standards for the egress and foot-candles. Mr. Yager asked if the yellow canopy that is jutting
forward will be illuminated. Mr. Margulies indicated it will be fabric and showed a sample. He said it is
opaque. Mr. Zergott said he does not know what the plants are across the front. He would suggest that
evergreens be used. 1VIr. George said there are evergreens there now. He said there may be a flowerbed
on the side of them. There is a row of evergreens against the deck. It will be moved out a couple of feet
for the ramp and it will stay there. In front of the ramp will be flowerbeds. Mr. Zergott said what is
going in there is not on the print and he would like to see evergreens. Mr. Malloy asked what specifically
he would like there. Mr. Zergott said taxus sebian would work best. He said snow plowing will be an
issue. Mr. George said the only thing that has survived the plowing is the evergreens. Mr. Zergott said
taxus sebian will only grow to about 2 feet tall. He said they should screen the bottom a bit and if they
use the same spacing that they have, there will be plenty of room for flowers.
B. Zergott made a motion to accept the design 1s presented with the revision that 5 taxus sebian be
added across the south side of the ramp with a spacing of 3 feet. The motion was seconded by J.
Nader and unanimously approved.
The clerk announced the proposal will now go to the Board of Zoning Appeals on March 6t1i, 2003 at 7:30
p.m.
V.
