RECEPTION OF VISITORS:
Gary & Judy Foreman on behalf of Oliver Foreman
Robert Sharp
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
Mr. Oliver Foreman 27588 Butternut Rid e?Road - Applicant is seeking a roof permit
Mr. Lang pointed out the applicant has supplied a sample of the roofing material. He showed the
members a sample of the material currently on the house. He said Mr. Gary Foreman is present on
behalf of his father, the homeowner. Mr. Lang then held up the sample of the new shingle material,
which is a three-tab shingle. There is a change is style and color which makes it necessary for the
applicant to get a certificate of appropriateness. Mr. Foreman explained the house is a 1950's brick
ranch. Mr. Barker asked Mr. Foreman if they will be doing any other flashing work or if he will just be
re-roofing. Mr. Foreman reviewed his father's request for the work.
P. Barker made a motion to approve the certificate of appropriateness for Mr. Oliver Foreman of
27588 Butternut Ridge Road. The motion was seconded by M. Davis and unanimously approved.
In the framing of the motion, Mr. Yager said it is a positive change. It is a nice shingle and he is glad
the applicant brought some life and dimension to it. It adds to the appropriateness of that particular
home. Mr. Oliver mentioned his father would also like to do the gutters. He asked if it will be
necessary to return to the board for that. Mrs. Lord said that would only be necessary if there was a
huge change from the existing gutters. Mr. Oliver said they will have something with gutter guards.
Mr. Barker said if Mr. Oliver would have to return, he does not see a problem with getting approval.
Mr. Lang asked if the applicant's preference is to have all the work done at the same time. Mr. Oliver
said it is the same company doing the roof and gutters. Mr. Yager asked if they could put something in
the approval that indicates the applicant must match the profile of the existing gutter. Mr. Oliver
confirmed the existing gutters will be taken off. Mr. Yager said they just need to make sure the straps
are concealed. The metal straps should not be visible. Mr. Oliver indicated they will be. There was
discussion about the minor change process and exemptions. Mr. Oliver expressed displeasure at the
process of having to appear before the board for a new roof. The board members provided Mr. Oliver
with information on the minor change procedure and the reasons for having applicants come before the
commission.
