inclusion be made in it that the foundation stones for that house be preserved. He said those are the
stones that he keeps referring to. He does not know if that is what everyone else is referring to. He has
come to find out that the stones from the homes on Butternut Ridge are actually preserved in the rear of
the home that is currently being used as a construction shanty. He said he took the liberty, prior to the
posting of the sign which reads "Authorized Personnel Only," to enter the backyard of that house and
look for the stones that he saw. All he saw was landscape boulders. He said they are not the ones he
has referred to. If the ones he referred to are around, he does not know where they are and he will
continue to try to track them down. Mr. Corell said he recalls seeing the foundation stones and it was
his understanding they may have come from a local quarry. They would make excellent planters or
something to sit on in the common area associated with the library. Mr. Barker said he also saw the
smaller landscape stone that Mr. Lang mentioned. He added that he took Mr. Gareau back to the area,
and asked other council members to walk back there. He said the Mayor keeps insisting the foundation
stones are there and they all seem to have a difference of opinion as to where the stones are. He has
heard in talking with other people that Mrs. Creadon was very adamant, before she left, that the stones
be saved. The board members agreed they need to find out for sure where the foundation stones are,
how many there are, and how big they are they. Mr. O'Malley said he would advise the board that they
are authorized for entry into that area but as a courtesy, they should proceed back there during regular
business hours. He said there may be a construction manager on site to notify, or someone in the
Service Department can be notified that the board is interested in going on site. Mrs. Lord said this is a
commission issue and it started with this board. She said as far as anyone is concerned, it has been
resolved, with the last communication from the Mayor to Council saying the stones are there and it's a
done deal. She said it seems to her that with issues raised tonight, it is not a done deal. She suggested
they put together a game plan as to what to do next. Mr. O'Malley recommended they put an inquiry in
writing to the engineer as to the specifications for the demolition contract. A copy of the
correspondence can be sent to Council, the Law Department, and Mayor, and perhaps that will shed
some light on the subject. There may be more than one demolition contract. It is appropriate to indicate
that the board does not believe that the size of the stones that are on the site are of the same size and
character that they expected. Mr. Corell remarked that they need to ascertain which stones and how
many are in question. Mr. Dubowski asked if Mr. Lang can recall the approximate size of the stones
when they were still part of a wall. Mr. Lang said he would estimate they would be a good fifteen
inches in height. They would have to be of a similar depth and in length they would be between two
and three feet. He added those would then form at least three, if not four, courses above ground below
the sill of the house. He said another verification that they have the correct stone is if anyone saw
whitewash paint, or UGL liquid masonry sealer paint, on the outside of any of those stones. That is
what Mr. Dunfee used for the outside portion of the basement. They are well worth preserving. Mr.
Lang said they will need a memo to the engineer requesting a copy of the demolition contract for the
Dunfee home. The board needs the specifics for the preservation of foundation stones. He said he took
pictures of those homes before they were demolished. Mr. Lang said they will ask Mrs. Kilbane to draft
a memo to the City Engineer on behalf of the board to make a request for the demolition contract(s) for
the Dunfee home in particular to include the specifications. 1V1r. Barker suggested copying Council, the
Mayor, Service Director, and the Law Department. Mr. O'Malley said he is not sure what the board's
ordinary procedure is when an applicant does not appear, but it is probably not uncommon to table them
until they are able to appear. He would recommend the board follow that procedure in this case. Mr.
Lang indicated the representatives from Halleen are not present. He said it would behoove them to
follow the advice of counsel and their own charge to begin the conversation on the request from C&C
Realty to demolish the two buildings at the corner of Porter and Lorain. Mr. Corell said the applications
are in the name of C&C Realty but they keep mentioning Halleen KIA. He asked if the two entities are
one in the same. Mr. Lang said the application for permit refers to the property owner as C&C Realty
and the business name, Dr. Barry. Mrs. Davis pointed out that C&C Realty is a general partner of
Halleen. Mr. O'Malley said the board members received a lot of information in their packets regarding
3
