CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGE'I'HER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />LANDMARKS COMMISSION <br />MIlaTUTES - JUNE 9, 2003 <br />IN OLI) TOWN HALL <br />7:00 P.M. <br />1. ROLL CALL: Vice Chairman Lord called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />PRESENT: B. Lord, L. VanAuken, M. Davis, T. Dubowski, J. Dailey, and P. Barker <br />ABSENT: G. Corell, and J. Lang <br />II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF 1VIINUTES: The Landmarks Commission minutes from <br />April 14, 2003 and May 12, 2003 have been submitted for approval. <br />Before approving the minutes, Mr. Barker pointed out that Mrs. VanAuken's name was in the <br />newspaper recently. He said she received an award from the League of Women Voters. He believes it <br />was soinething like Citizen of the Year, or Woman of the Year. The board members congratulated <br />Mrs. VanAuken. Mrs. Lord added that Mrs. VanAuken is the only original member of the Landmarks <br />Commission. <br />T. Dubowski made a motion to approve the minutes of April 14, 2003 as written. The motion was <br />seconded by P. Barker and unanimously approved. <br />Mr. Dubowski mentioned there should be a correction on page 2 of the May minutes. The word <br />"paid" in line 5 should be "pay" and the word "it" in the next line should read "the materials." He <br />indicated there should also be an adjustment to line eight. He suggested that after W. Dailey's name it <br />should read "Note: see above clerk's correction." <br />M. Davis made a motion to approve the May 12th minutes as corrected. The motion was seconded by <br />L. VanAuken and unanimously approved. <br />III. RECEPTION OF VISITORS: <br />IV. NEW BUSINESS: <br />Continued discussion on foundation stones - Mrs. Lord pointed out that she spoke with Mr. Lang <br />about the on-going request to locate the foundation stones that were to be saved from the property on <br />Butternut that was torn down for the library. She said the board members should have received a copy <br />of a letter to the Mayor and Safety Director dated May 28th to request information on the location of <br />the foundation stones. She said that follows up on earlier information the board received from Mr. <br />Lang. Mr. Barker said he received a call from Councilman Miller regarding the fourth request and Mr. <br />Miller said he was about to mail out a fifth request to ask the Mayor for a response on the foundation <br />stones. He added that Mr. Jesse, the Safety Director, and Mr. Miller got together and Mr. Jesse said he <br />would try to find out where the stones are. He said that Mr. Jesse also mentioned that there might <br />have been an asbestos problem. Mr. Barker said he knows someone who works for the company that <br />did the asbestos removal. He called that gentleman and asked for his opinion on the foundation stones. <br />He said he asked if asbestos would contaminate the sandstone and if it would infiltrate the sandstone. <br />He indicated the gentleman called him back and had checked all of his notes and as far as he can tell, <br />the stones were checked and they weren't contaminated. They were washed and as far as this guy was <br />concerned they were good to go and there should be no problem. Mr. Barked mentioned that this <br />gentleman did suggest that maybe if they can't be found, the excavating company might have hauled <br />them away. Mr. Barker said his question to that is, is it legal. He said if the stones were tagged for <br />being contaminated, would it be up to the company to haul them away. Mr. Barker said the gentleman
