indicated, yes, it would be up to his company. Mr. Barker said as of right now they don't know where
the stones are. He indicated he spoke with the Clerk of Commissions, Mrs. Rote, on Friday afternoon.
He said he asked Mrs. Rote to invite Mr. Jesse and Mr. Miller to the meeting tonight and to find any
minutes that reference the foundation stones. He said the board members received that information
and the minutes reflect that the stone is to be used around the site of the new library on Butternut
Ridge. He said they do have a record that the stones are to be kept and everyone was in agreement,
including the Mayor, Mrs. Creadon, and the architects. Mr. Barker indicated he spoke with Mr. Dailey
before the meeting and asked that he report to Council at its next meeting regarding this discussion.
He said Landmarks meetings are not usually reported back to Council but this time it seems in order.
He said the board was involved in the library planning process and provided a lot of good input. It
seems that at this point, one individual does not want to answer questions and no one else is coming
forth at this time. He said he believes this needs to be brought out because this is a commission that is
in charge of looking over the historical district. As far as he is concerned, the library is in the historic
district and it is the board's charge to protect that. There are residents that come to the board at almost
every meeting that are looking for the board's guidance and support, and suggestions on improving
their properties and here we have something of significant value going up, at taxpayer's expense, and
the board had input that is now not being used. There was further discussion about what may have
happened to the stones. Mr. Barker referred to the minutes that were provided to the board members
and read some of the comments made regarding the use of the foundation stones.
V. COMIVIUNICATIONS:
Newspaper clippin sregardiniz various Landmarks issues - Mrs. Lord mentioned the article about
Medina. She said it is of special interest because Steve McQuillan is the expert that worked for North
Olmsted. He was a part of our survey in 1984-1985. He was hired to do a small portion of the survey.
Local Historian - Mrs. Lord asked if anyone had read the article on the Berea Historical Society
developing a policy on photograph and document use when a restaurant chain asked about copies of
old photographs. She said Landmarks has been asked to do that in the past. Bennigan's and
Applebee's are two examples. She suggested that all the board members read the article.
The Alliance Review
Echoes
National Trust Forum membership letter and information packet
Fagade newsletter
VI. COMMITTEE REPOR'I'S:
There was discussion of dates for getting the work session crew together to continue the work on the
files. Mr. Dailey suggested using the Saturday dates to get the homecoming committee together. Mrs.
Lord said she will talk with Mr. Lang and let him know the 28`i' of June is a possible work date.
VI. OLD BUSINESS:
Mrs. Lord said that Mr. Lang asked her to inform the board that Mr. Halleen went before the Planning
Cominission. Mr. Halleen stated his intention to demolish the building on the corner of Porter and
Lorain. Mr. Lang told her it is not an issue at the present time because, as she understands it, the
Planning Commission refused to engage in a new topic until some of the previous topics are
completed. It is a non-issue right now but a forewarning that it is coming. It is important for the board
members to know that and to start thinking about what they need to be ready to do. She said there are
certain things that happen with a request for a demolition in a historic district and they need to be
aware of that. The board can only delay matters; they cannot stop things. She said the board members
should have a copy of the maps from previous discussions when the board did, in fact, at N1r. Halleen's
2
