Q
? information so they could have a handle on it. It was not necessarily to get involved in any deep
discussion. Mrs. Davis said they were wondering if the programs she had taken, the historic real estate
program through the National Trust, would in some way fulfill the requirement set forth in the
ordinance. Mrs. VanAuken asked if it would be a good idea to ask the Ohio Historical Society if the
requirement is met. Mr. Lang said the law department can get some very good guidance from the Ohio
Historical Society on what they mean when they use the term "professional". The wording in our
ordinance is basically the same as it is in the CLG application and the standards that are set by the Ohio
Historical Society. Mr. Lang said he can call the Ohio Historical Society and get some ideas from them
and forward them to Mr. Dubelko, in terms of a definition. He will let the Society know that North
Olmsted is very interested in becoming a CLG and wants to make sure everything is order. The city
wants to be sure that when the application and resumes are sent in, it is acceptable to them. They have
to follow certain guidelines and we, the city, need to know what those guidelines are. There was
discussion of other communities in the area that obtained CLG status. Mrs. VanAuken mentioned a
person who used to work in the North Olmsted library. This person put together many things that they
do in Olmsted Falls. Mrs. VanAuken asked if it might be appropriate to ask this person to come and
talk about how they got the CLG or perhaps ask her to write something. They have a very creative
program. Mr. Lang mentioned the board is in receipt of a 16inm movie from the fire department,
marked "North Olmsted 1938". He said a videotape copy was made. The record should show that
Landmarks has the original. He added that he spoke with Mrs. Lord last night to bring her up to date on
things. At that time, Mrs. Lord suggested the board think about showing the film to somebody who
would have been around in 1938 so that they can begin to identify the participants of the film.
Distribution of tasks for step one of self-guided tour (MetroScan information included in packets)
Mr. Lang said because of the number of people absent it would be difficult to parcel out the chores. He
said that as Mrs. VanAuken has pointed out, the MetroScan information is not the best source. He said
they need to find a better way to put this information in numerical sequence so it can be distributed. He
indicated he may go over to the Engineering Department to see if MetroScan can order this information
by house address. He does not believe it can be done that way. Mr. Lang mentioned they should be
pretty well set up on the computer. They at least have a login and a password. He said there should be
an address listing of homes on Butternut in the computer that was done by Kurt Baker a few years ago.
Mr. Lang mentioned the pictures that he viewed in the Commissions Office and indicated they have
been copied to a disc and they can be accessed on the computer. He said some of the actual photos are
hanging up at Old Town Hall. Mrs. Davis asked if the photos are identified on the computer. Mr. Lang
said they are not identified. He said large numbers of photographs that they thought were not around
are actually here. Other photos have been scanned into the computer and are not here. He said he
talked with Mr. Dubelko about this issue. He found out either an invitation was issued or someone
noticed there were some nice things that might be good decorations for walls in offices and things were
borrowed. They have no idea what has been borrowed. Mr. Lang asked the law director if it would be
appropriate to send out a memo to all department heads and anybody else who might know the
whereabouts of historical items, asking them to inform Landmarks as to what they have and the
locations so the board can keep track of things. Mr. Dubelko informed him it would be a good idea and,
in fact, indicated there are pictures in the law department offices. Mr. Lang said he may have to sit
down at the computer to look at pictures and then compare it to what he knows is here and what he has
seen elsewhere so they can identify what is missing.
VII. ADJOURNMENT: P. Barker made a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded by M. Davis and
? unanimously approved. Chairman Lang adjourned the meeting at 8:15 p.m.

f
Joq)I,ang, Chairman? Date Annie Kilbane, Assistant Clerk of Commissions
4
