1 <br />CITY OF NOIZTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A I)IFFERENCE!" <br />CiTLTURAL ACTIVITIES COMIVIISSION <br />IN OLD TOWN HALL <br />APRIL 4, 2004 <br />MIlNUTES <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Vice Chairwoman Martindale called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Vice Chairwoman B. Martindale; Board members; B. App, L. Beach, D. Frazier <br />and G. Thompson. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Guest Gerald Yustick and D. Rote Clerk of Commissions. <br />ABSENT: Board members; C. Birney, and R. Garland. <br />II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF M1NiJTES: <br />The minutes from the Cultural Activities meeting held March 3, 2004 have been submitted <br />for approval. <br />III. NEW BUSINESS: <br />Mrs. Beach reviewed the commissions chartered mission is not set up as a true Community <br />Arts Council, like Berea's or Westshore's Art Councils, which are independently ran and <br />funded. As a matter of charter, the commission was set up to, serve as a conduit to existing <br />organizations and to facilitate and recommend policy particularly with regards to <br />construction, not as a programming board. While community input should be welcomed, <br />membership cannot logistically be extended or admittance fees charged. The group being <br />sponsored may only charge admittance fees. The Commissioners discussed having 3 or 4 <br />more members on the Commission and staggering terms. <br />IV. OLI) BUSINESS: <br />l. Continued discussion regarding Dover Players performance. <br />Mrs. Martindale reviewed that the play will be a comida play entitled "Fools" by Neil Simon, <br />there are 10 main parts, and there are non-speaking parts for people to hold and display <br />banners throughout the play. Posters would need to be posted in the Art Departments of each <br />school by the end of next week. So that the High School Students know they can try out for <br />parts in the play. Mrs. Beach's daughter is in the thespian group and Mrs..Beach will ask her <br />daughter to send the date, times and name of play to all the thespian members she has e-mail <br />addresses for. Mrs. Beach read allowed the following insert that would be put into the flyer <br />for the play. "The North Olinsted Cultural Activities Commission was reinstated by the <br />Mayor in 2002, to serve as the first step towards the creation of a Cultural and Fine Arts <br />Center. After much study and deliberation, the commission has recommended to the City <br />and School Officials the construction of a 1000 seat auditorium on the middle/high school <br />campus and a 100 seat community theatre attached to a proposed new senior center. We <br />realize these recommendations are not financially feasible in the near future. Therefore, after <br />further study and discussion we believe Old Town Hall should be utilized as a community <br />theatre and art related event space.
