•calculated the size of the signs in conjunction to the size of the building. Overall the signage is
smaller than what was approved for Galyan's. They would like to work with the variances that have
been granted. Mr. Belknap handed out new plans to each of the board members. The board
requested that all three signs be the same size. Mr. Rymarczyk stated that an additional variance
would be required as the new plans show the signs less than 12 inches from the top of the building.
The applicants agreed to lower the signs on the side of the building to meet code requirements. Mr.
Mikula representing the mall stated that tenants that are anchors of Dick's size require larger size
signs as their buildings are so massive. A small sign would be lost on a building this size and Dick's
is trying to make their corporate signs fit on another company's corporate building. Mr. 0'Malley
indicated that the code requires a standard size sign and with unique circumstances there are times
when flexibility is called for by the board. The board suggested placing the sign on the brick wall not
above the windows. The applicants stated that if the signs were moved back on the brick walls they
would not be seen from the road.
M. Maloney moved to grant Dicks Sporting Goods of 200 Great Northern Mall their request
for variance (1123.12), which The proposal consists of new signage for Dick's Sporting Goods
(formerly Galyan's). The following variances are granted as amended:
1. A 6 foat 4 inch variance for 3 wall signs higher than code permits, (code permits 4 ft. and
applicant shows 10 ft. 4 inch), section (1163.27 (C)).
2. A variance for having 3 wall signs on a building unit, Code permits 1 applicant shows 3,
section (1163.27 (A)).
This is in violation of Ord. 90-125 sections (1163.27 (C)). W. Kreanzar seconded the motion
which h was unanimously approved.
IV. AI)JOURNMENT:
Chairman Maloney moved to adjourn the meeting. W. Kremzar seconded the motion which
was unanimously approved. Meeting adjourned at 11:00 pm.
