for the girl’s softball throw. Five finalists emerged from the 11 to 12 year old groups with a fifth in the
girl’s softball throw, a third in the girl’s standing long jump, third in the boy’s standing long jump, third
in the boy’s running long jump, and fourth in the boy’s 50 yard dash. Finally, in the 13 to 14 year old
category there were only boy’s finalists with a fifth in the shot put, and 100 meter dash, fourth in the
running long jump, and a third place in the 800 meter run.

Eb Molesch, 5th degree Black Belt Master Instructor, conducted the 3rd Annual Black Belt Test for
advanced students in the Parks and Recreation Department Karate program. The Technical Test was
held on July 23, 1995 and the Public Test was held on July 29, 1995. The Lifetime Karate Academy
Black Belt Testing Board consisted of Gene Kleckner-1st Dan, Mike Rusin-1st Dan, Denise Molesch-
2nd Dan, and Eb Molesch-5th Dan. Adult candidates included Dan Amiot II and T. Ward Collins, Sr.
The junior candidates included Jennifer DeVries, Elisabeth B. Korsnak, Alex Kroman, Marc
Rothenberg, John Seagraves, and Jessica Webb. I have included a portion of the program for this
event because I found it to be quite interesting and an extremely formal presentation worthy of
outstanding recognition.

The Summer Swim Team had an excellent summer with a regular season record of 3 wins and 2
losses. They finished third in the League Championship Swim Meet which was our first trophy ever!
Hopefully we can continue to build on this successful season.

G
eneral

Attached are several newspaper articles from local sources highlighting some interesting information.
The Sun Herald had a great photo featuring the Popsicle Swim Meet. Interestingly enough the young
man featured was from Bay Village. I have also included an article on shared values which was
discussed at a recent Staff Meeting along with another article on responsibility. Both articles elude to
the type of corporate strategies being implemented in today’s successful business environments.
Attached is a follow up article on the very high costs of constructing Strongsville’s proposed recreation
center. Now it appears they will have to start eliminating elements within the facility or other cost
saving measures which may hurt their ability to meet the needs of their community. The final article
highlights the fact that Westlake is placing an issue on the November ballot for consideration by the
voters. Westlake has also chosen to try an income tax increase to provide funding for their recreation
center. This, of course, has the advantage of assessing mostly non-residents for this increased tax.
Usually these type of tax increases are easier to get approved but can be a detriment to some
economic development strategies which may hurt the community in the long-term.

3
