Commission Meeting <br />August 13, 1997 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br />trees have been removed but quite a few new trees are being planted along the perimeter of <br />the park to create separation from the residential properties. The renovation work includes a <br />tremendous amount of drainage improvements to the park land and the ball fields. The <br />playground is going to have a six foot concrete walkway that extends around the entire <br />perimeter of the play area and which will be handicapped accessible. There are a number of <br />aesthetic features being added to the play area, such as decorative landscaping and creative <br />use of split face concrete block for benches along the walkway. There will be playground <br />equipment for preschool and school age children which will be safer and more action oriented <br />then any other play unit in North Olmsted. <br /> <br />Mr. Dolansky stated that a meeting was recently held with the residents surrounding the <br />Clague Park area. The residents had some great comments about what they wanted to see at <br />Clague Park in addition to what was already planned. The additional amenities included: a <br />shelter house, perimeter walking path, and restrooms. Residents also had a lot of questions <br />about the playground area and the future potential of building tennis and basketball courts. <br />through a land lease agreement in Clague Park with a cellular communications company, <br />regarding these new funds derived through the land lease agreement for a small piece of <br />property at Clague Park. Mr. Dolansky noted that in addition to a one time contribution to the <br />City there was also a monthly fee being derived. <br /> <br />After some discussion, a motion was made by Mrs. Saringer to recommend that, City Council <br />should consider that a significant portion of the $75,000 received by the City as a result of this <br />cell tower agreement should be used at Clague Park in the following priority of projects: <br />restrooms, shelter house, and walking path. The motion was seconded by Mr. Scott and <br />approved unanimously through a roll call verification. <br /> <br />Further discussion ensued regarding this matter, a motion was made by Mr. Smith to <br />recommend that, City Council should consider that a significant portion of the revenue received <br />by the City as a result of this cell tower agreement should be directed towards park <br />maintenance with Clague Park having first priority. The motion was seconded by Claire Hayes <br />and approved unanimously through a roll call verification. <br /> <br />Mr. Dolansky stated that if the construction is significantly completed by early September they <br />would like to have a Grand Re-Opening of Clague Park tentatively scheduled for Saturday, <br />October 18, 1997 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. If the time table for completion cannot <br />accommodate this date the event will be re-scheduled for early spring. <br /> <br />Mr. Dolansky stated that the NatureWorks grant application for the Ice Rink roof is proceeding <br />along well through the O.D.N.R. approval review process. It is hoped that an engineering firm <br />will be chosen before the end of the year. He also stated that the indoor tennis courts have <br />the new net posts in place and the surface coating is scheduled to be completed by the end of <br />August. It is hoped that by next year there will be enough funds to have the walls painted and <br />new court curtains purchased to continue the aesthetic improvements to the tennis court area. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
