<br />Commission Meeting <br />January 10, 2000 <br />Page Two <br /> <br /> <br />The park shelter matter was then opened for discussion. Mr. Limpert stated that Council could <br />be looking at matching funds of $6,000. The best place for the location of the fireplace within the <br />shelter was also discussed (north, south, east or west) for safety reasons. The placement of the <br />shelter and fireplace must go through all channels (e.g., Fire Department, Building Department, <br />Planning, Zoning, Safety) before it is built. Mr. Stein indicated the shelter could feasibly be built <br />in two weeks. <br /> <br />Ms. Hayes recommended a Community Council donation plaque, to be placed within the shelter, <br />in appreciation for the Council’s long effort to accomplish this goal. Mr. Limpert indicated that <br />this would good marketing for the citizens to recognize Community Council. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued on the placement of tennis/basketball courts, ball diamonds to other areas of <br />the park to make it more attractive and safe for the residents. Speed bumps and traffic patterns <br />could be arranged for children safely at play. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Mr. Gardner, seconded by Mr. Scott, for a resolution to implement the <br />building of the park shelter with a fireplace, which was approved unanimously by the quorum. <br /> <br />Election of Officers: <br />Claire Hayes, Chairman, requested that the Board Members elect a Chairman, Vice-Chairman <br />and Secretary for 2000. <br /> <br />Mr. Gardner nominated Mrs. Hayes for Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission for <br />2000. The nomination was seconded by Mr. Scott, and, hearing no other nominations, Mrs. <br />Hayes closed the nomination process. Mrs. Hayes’ nomination as chairman of the Parks and <br />Recreation Commission was approved unanimously. <br /> <br />Mrs. Hayes, Chairman, asked for nominations for Vice-Chairman of the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission for 2000. Mr. Smith was recommended for this position and, in his absence, the <br />nomination was withdrawn until the February Commission meeting. <br /> <br />Mrs. Hayes, Chairman, asked for nominations for Secretary of the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission for 2000. Mr. Gardner nominated Judy Ptacek, seconded by Mr. Scott, and the <br />nomination was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />Report by Acting Commissioner: <br /> <br />Mr. Morgan reported that Craig Collins is now the new Aquatics/Programs Supervisor, replacing <br />Donna Szalay, who is now working in Middleburg Heights at a significant increase in salary for <br />sole <br />1999 and a further increase of $8,000 for 2000. Donna’s duties in Middleburg Heights <br />consist of Aquatics supervision, and therein lies the difference between that city and North <br />Olmsted. <br /> <br />The pool was shut down for nine and one half days in December because of leakage, which <br />problem was addressed and corrected by our long-standing pool service company.
